The town of Nucla, Colorado joins Nelson, Georgia in requiring that every head of household residing inside town limits to maintain a firearm.

The symbolic town ordinance passed with a 5-1 vote, and won’t be enforced. Pro tem mayor and town trustee Richard Craig said, “Every head of the household residing in town limits is required to maintain a firearm together with ammunition thereafter. Criminals are put on notice, period. We are armed.”

Not surprisingly, anti-gun liberals are mystified.

Personally, I agree with Bill Long, the lone trustee who voted against the ordinance who said, “We’re not being consistent, saying we don’t want government in our lives but here we are saying everybody’s got to own a gun.” Having said that, it is nice to see a group of people taking a stand for gun rights, even if it is just symbolic.

Bad idea of the <del>week</del> year…

Recently during a phone call with Brandon, the worst idea I’ve heard since I’ve had to deal with 2nd Lieutenants came up. There is a man who thinks an armed march around the streets of Washington D.C. will scare the government into stop being so tyrannical. Where do I even start to eat this proverbial elephant in the room?

First off and most obvious to me is this – we as firearm owners, manufacturers and aficionados have been under attack since this administration took office. Why in the name of Billy Bob Thornton would you instigate a fight with the White House and the Capitol Police over this matter? Especially when the administration is currently drowning in their own pool of scandal? Benghazi is soon to come to light, the IRS scandal is just now getting started, and the AP News scandal has made the Tea Party some new (albeit odd) supporters, two of which are none other than Piers Morgan and Joe Scarborough. While I am not one to back down from a fight, I do have enough sense to know when to sit back and enjoy watching someone get beat down without me having to lift a finger. This armed march on D.C. would be the political Godsend that the Democrats need in order to shift focus away from the current scandals. If anything we should be putting pressure on the Democrats, not relieving it.

Secondly, Mr. Adam Kokesh, (that’s the guy the good idea fairy visited) let me speak directly to you. Since you think you’re gonna stick it to the “Man” I’ll put this in Marine-proof terms that maybe you haven’t thought about. Your plan is to meet in Virginia with 5,000 of your closest armed friends with slung loaded weapons, walk into D.C., around the Capitol and White House, and then back into Virginia. My first question is this – when the Capitol Police, Homeland Security, and the Secret Service barricade that bridge and won’t let you into D.C., and you’re now in a choke point, a Mexican standoff with Federal Law Enforcement, will you and your 5,000 friends keep your wits about you and not draw your weapons? Will they have the trigger discipline to not do something stupid? Better question, will the L/E on the other side have the trigger discipline to not shoot you? If the answer is no to any of these questions, many lives, as well as the Second Amendment will die on that bridge, and guess what asshole, you will only make the tyranny worse, not better. While I realize you fancy yourself a Libertarian guidon bearer, I personally think this is another case of the “look at me, look at me” problem you have in common with Cindy Sheehan, Snooki, and Charlie Sheen.

Lets look at it from another direction shall we? Your stated goal is to show the government you won’t be intimidated, and create a high water mark to stem the tide of tyranny. Honestly, where do I sign up, but here’s the problem: when in history have our Senators, Representatives and leaders ever been scared into doing the right thing? Hell we have the “Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988” because some dumbass Senator saw in a movie that a Glock could pass through metal detectors. The fact is our Senators, Representatives and leaders are all pussies, with the exception of maybe Rand Paul and a few others. When faced with fear, their response is always to legislate it away, and in this case they would legislate the Second Amendment away. Believe me man, I am on your side, I just think your tactics suck. What about using the same playbook that just about bankrupted RECOIL magazine? You have a rabid following Mr. Kokesh, I know you have leadership, as you don’t make Sergeant in the Marine Corps without it.

But think about the people you will have following you on that choke point, think if they will be better served in voting these asshats out in November 2014, or casualties in our generation’s version of Lexington Green.

A California micro-stamping law that was signed by Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007 is now in effect. The micro-stamping law is the nation’s first of its kind and requires that all semiautomatic handguns to be equipped with technology that stamps the gun’s serial number into the casing.

The idea behind micro-stamping is (supposedly) that it will make solving crimes involving firearms easier. The elevator pitch usually goes something like this. If a spent casing is found at a crime scene, the serial number could be retrieved from the casing, and its owner could be located using the state’s firearm registry.

However, as it turns out, unicorns and leprechauns aren’t real.

The idea behind micro-stamping sounds good on paper, but when you actually start to think about it, it’s not hard to imagine a world where the law is wholly ineffective. First, the law exempts guns currently on the state’s allowed firearm list, and since criminals don’t much care if the weapons they are obtaining illegally are on the state’s allowed firearms list or not, the result is that all guns currently in circulation in California will not have micro-stamping.

Second, let’s fast-forward 10 years and pretend that somehow most guns have micro-stamping. Guess what? How hard is it to go to a range, gather up a bunch of spent brass and spread it around the next time you off someone?

The number of star alignments and Sasquatch sightings that need to take place before micro-stamping is effective is staggering. But common sense has never mattered much to most politicians.

Backdoor Ban?

Some have speculated that this law will result in banning any new guns from being added to the state’s allowed firearms list. Their argument is that manufacturers won’t go through the expensive process of retooling just for California, and some have even gone so far as to speculate that this was the politicians’ plan all along.

While I can’t rule out that being the intent of the law, I disagree with the speculated outcome.

The reason is simple: the California gun market is huge. So huge in fact, that a lot of manufacturers already make a California compliant version of their weapons, and I predict the same thing will happen in this case. The end result will just be that Californians will pay more (manufacturers will have to recoup the production cost) for an already neutered weapon.

My advice remains the same – vote with your feet, and let California drown in its insurmountable debt.

The “cleverness” of liberals continues to astound.

Michael Moore and Bill Maher, two of Team Liberal’s favorite geniuses, took on S.E. Cupp to debate gun control last night on the HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher.” Most of you know how I feel about Michael Moore, he’s a heinous, disgusting hypocrite – no surprises there. What the following video does make clear, however, is the left’s ultimate goal: the complete destruction of the Second Amendment. They aren’t even trying to hide it.

The Second Amendment is bullshit.

- Bill Maher

Interestingly, Bill Maher proves just two minutes later that like Moore, he’s also a hypocrite (seems to be a bit of a trend here), saying, “I say all the time on this show, as long as we live in the gun country, I ain’t giving up my gun. There have been 12 home invasions in my neighborhood in the last year.”

Disgusting fools.

Magpul announced today on Facebook that it has joined Colorado County Sheriffs in filing a lawsuit to invalidate the recently passed gun control measures.

MAGPUL INDUSTRIES ANNOUNCES LAWSUIT TO INVALIDATE COLORADO GUN CONTROL MEASURES

Denver, Colorado – May 17th, 2013 – Magpul Industries, an Erie, Colorado, based manufacturer of firearms accessories, announced today that it has joined 53 Colorado County Sheriffs and other plaintiffs in filing a lawsuit this morning to invalidate gun control measures recently passed by the Colorado legislature and enacted by Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper.

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court and establishes that Colorado House Bill 1224 (magazine restrictions) and House Bill 1229 (universal background checks) violate the constitutional rights of lawful gun owners located in Colorado.

Duane Liptak, Director of Product Management and Marketing for Magpul Industries, said that these gun control laws do nothing other than restrict the ability of law abiding citizens to defend themselves and Magpul is committed to invalidating these infringements:

“Colorado’s recently passed gun control laws are a direct assault on the constitutional rights of the responsible people who live in and visit this great state. These laws will do nothing to enhance public safety and only place unreasonable limitations on the ability of law abiding citizens to defend themselves. While Magpul is currently in the process of moving its operations out of Colorado, we will not turn our back on our native state. Extreme gun control interests have forced the passage of these unconstitutional laws in Colorado, and as a company, we are resolved to restore those rights to the people.”

Magpul’s outside legal counsel, Jon Anderson, of Holland & Hart LLP, said that the Colorado gun control bills are unconstitutional and so poorly drafted that the new laws would be enforced in an inconsistent manner:

“Colorado’s gun control laws are in direct conflict with the U.S. Constitution. In addition, these bills were so poorly drafted that no one agrees on the scope of the government regulation. If teams of lawyers cannot agree on what these bills prohibit, how can we expect citizens to abide by these laws and how can we rely on law enforcement to implement these laws in a consistent manner?”

Magpul will continue to support productive efforts to FREE COLORADO from government regulations that imperil the rights of law abiding firearm owners.

The Associated Press is reporting that a group of 54 Colorado sheriffs are planning to file a lawsuit to block the recently passed gun control laws. There is supposed to be a news conference tomorrow morning to detail the federal challenge. There are 64 counties in Colorado, so if 54 sheriffs join the lawsuit, that’s just over 84% representation. Pretty amazing.

DENVER—A group of Colorado sheriffs unhappy with recent gun control laws are planning to file a lawsuit to block them.

The sheriffs have called a Friday morning news conference to detail their federal challenge. The lawmen said they would challenge two new laws, one limiting the size of ammunition magazines and another law to expand gun background checks.

The laws were passed earlier this year in response to mass shootings in Aurora and at a school in Connecticut. Not all sheriffs testified against the bills, but some were frequent visitors to the state Capitol in an effort to prevent the gun controls.

The right-leaning Independence Institute says 54 sheriffs are joining the lawsuit, along with other gun-rights activists who oppose the laws.

Maryland became the latest state to infringe upon the Second Amendment protected rights of its citizens today when Governor Martin O’Malley signed SB 281, the so-called Firearms Safety Act of 2013, into law.

Official Bill Summary

Establishing an exception to the prohibition against carrying a deadly weapon on public school property; making it a misdemeanor to possess or use specified firearm ammunition during the commission of a crime of violence; limiting the authorization for a person to wear, carry, or transport a handgun; designating specified firearms as assault weapons; prohibiting, with exceptions, a person from transporting an assault weapon into the State or possessing, selling, offering to sell, transferring, purchasing, or receiving an assault weapon; etc.

Infringement

The law, which takes affect on October 1, limits handgun magazine capacity to 10 rounds and adds an additional 45 weapons to the banned “assault weapon” list. They even go so far as to define an “assault pistol” in the bill, as if they are competing with other fascist strongholds to see who can be the most ridiculous.

Sad day in Maryland to be sure, and even worse, it’s sounding less and less likely that Beretta USA will leave Maryland in protest. The bill is 60-something pages long, and if you live in Maryland, you should probably read it. Or better yet, move. It’s the most effective peaceful resistance we have left.

Recently I had the good fortune to visit the Houston Laser Shot facility with my friends Colion Noir, Lonnie from Texas Custom Guns and Joe from Patriot Defense, to see what Laser Shot was all about. We had a great time, and I came away very impressed with their technologies and what they have to offer.

What is Laser Shot?

First off, if you’re not familiar with Laser Shot, they are essentially a technology company that focuses on providing firearms simulation systems and live-fire training facilities to a variety of markets. Laser Shot systems are used in many different applications, from military and law enforcement to home theater and higher education.

During my time with Laser Shot, I was able to test out several of their systems.

Crosshair System

Laser Shot Crosshair System

The first system we tested was the Crosshair system. The Crosshair system is essentially a 100 yard outdoor range that allows you to shoot live fire long rifle into a projected scenario. Think Call of Duty, but with real weapons. A scenario is programmed into the Laser Shot system and then projected into their live-fire “theater”.

As you can see from the photo, the Crosshair system places 3D life-sized human avatars at actual distances on an outdoor live fire range. This allows the user to reinforce target recognition, target acquisition, anticipate human movement, as well as work on basic marksmanship.

Probably the most impressive part of the Crosshair system for me was that when targets were engaged, everyone within the scenario reacted accordingly depending on whether they are threat or friendly, armed, wounded, etc.

Long Range Precision Shooting Simulator

Next up was the Long Range Precision Shooting Simulator (LRPSS) system. The LRPSS is designed to train shooters to make long range shots in the virtual world. Once again, the system is programmed to user’s specifications, including simulated wind, time of day, elevation, and 3D human avatars, as well as weapon, caliber, scope and reticle.

As you would expect, the LRPSS scenarios are virtually endless. The scenario I ran through was a rooftop sniper engaging threats at 500+ yards using a Leupold Mark 4 with H58 reticle. Obviously getting this sort of trigger time in the real world would be cost prohibitive and logistically improbable, but with the LRPSS, it’s available at any time for just the cost of electricity (once the system is purchased of course).

Modular Shoot House

Laser Shot Modular Shoot House

After the LRPSS, we moved on to the Laser Shot Modular Shoot House, which used the Laser Shot Virtual Shoot House (LVS) software as the scenario driver. The shoot house is an impressive setup to say the least. Not only does the LVS software support virtually any scenario, but the shoot house is a completely customizable close quarters shooting facility. The shoot house supports multiple breaching scenarios including (explosive, pry, ram, shotgun breaching doors and “break-n-rake” breaching windows) and has completely modular rooms that can be reconfigured to meet your specific needs.

The shoot house also supports both live and laser fire, so scenarios can be run very inexpensively. We ran through multiple live fire scenarios with both pistol and rifle, and what I found particularly interesting was the shot-by-shot after action reporting capabilities. After each scenario, the LVS software replayed the scenario, and showed where every single shot landed with an anatomy breakdown of each avatar so that we could see what vital organs were hit.

Portable Small Arms Training Simulator

We finished up the day at Laser Shot on the Portable Small Arms Training Simulator (PSATS). The PSATS is a small, portable device that supports various training scenarios and educational software. The system supports both rifle and pistol, and has a multitude of uses from teaching basic marksmanship to home entertainment and everything in between. It literally is a self-contained, portable system that can be setup virtually anywhere to provide training.

Wrapping Up

Time did not permit me to demo every single Laser Shot system, but of the systems I was fortunate enough to test, I have only scratched the surface of here. Laser Shot’s technologies are pretty amazing, as is the variety of applications that they support. From military and law enforcement training to home entertainment, the possibilities are nearly endless.

To learn more about Laser Shot’s capabilities, check them out on the web. I think you’ll be as impressed as I am.
