4Sevens Quark MiNi AA²

An easily accessible flashlight is a high priority for me. I have a number of them scattered throughout my house just-in-case, and I recently started carrying one with me everyday. I wanted something small, simple to use, easy to carry and bright. That search lead me to the 4Sevens Quark MiNi AA². Not only is the perfect size for an every-day-carry (EDC) flashlight, it is powerful and runs on standard AA batteries.

It’s very bright for the size. During a recent power-outage, I used the MiNi to light our entire living room. It’s size makes it easy to carry everyday. It sits low in the pocket with the included clip, but is still easy to pull out when needed. The box also includes a lanyard which attached to the top, but I found the pocket clip to be the most useful.

The MiNi has three constant light modes: low, medium and high. It also includes three other special modes: strobe, S.O.S, and beacon. Switching between the three main modes is easy. Simply turn the MiNi off and on again within one second. This selects the next level of constant output in this sequence: Low -> Medium -> High. Low is great for when your eyes are adjusted to the dark and need a little extra light. Medium is where I usually run my MiNi. It is bright, but not overly so. The highest setting is best used for lighting large areas.

I do have a couple issues with the light. Out of the box, the batteries rattle a little bit. This was easily remedied with a little electrical tape on the batteries. Second, I found the flashlight would change what setting it was on or shut off when shaken or dropped. Putting the tape on the batteries helped. It’s not a huge issue, but I still find it a little annoying.

Wrapping Up

The MiNi is a good flashlight. Great build-quality, waterproof construction and it’s compact size make it a great EDC light. A few minor quibbles aside, I am seriously considering buying a few more for my cars.
