I’m hard on bags, especially range bags. Around here, range bags tend to get loaded with too much weight and tossed in the bed of my truck driving to and from the range. Because of this, I’ve always just used a cheap duffel bag as my range bag. When it ripped, or the cheap zipper blew out, no big deal.
That all changed when I received the 5.11 Tactical Range Ready Bag as a gift from a family member. Well, it didn’t all change – I still load the bag as full as I can get it, and I still throw it in the bed of my truck. What has changed is that (so far) I have yet to faze my Range Ready Bag even a little.
- 9x18x10 main compartment
- 6x16x7 removable ammo tote and brass bag with two side zipper pockets
- YKK zippers
- Made from 600-denier polyester
- Eight pistol magazine holders in large padded external pocket
- Padded side pockets in main compartment to accommodate and protect pistols
- Durable nylon carrying handles with Velcro closure
- Removable shoulder strap with heavy duty clips
- 6 double zippered main compartment closure flap with Velcro closure
- Water bottle holder
The main compartment is a good size for a range bag. In the picture you can see I have it loaded with three pistols (Smith & Wesson M&P, Ruger SR9, and Walther PPQ), just under 1,000 rounds of ammo and targets (folded). Which all adds up to a good day at the range.
Removable Ammo Tote
You can see the handle straps of the removable ammo tote in the center of the main compartment. To be honest, I don’t remove the tote very often because I don’t really need to. But it will save space at the shooting line if all you need from your bag is your gun and ammo. You can remove the ammo tote, grab your gun, and leave the bag and the rest of the contents back off the line.
The 5.11 Tactical Range Ready Bag represents good value, which we always try to highlight here at Monderno. At the time of writing, you could find the bag for around $100, which I think is a good deal for the quality level you get. This is a bag that should last for many years.
I love my 5.11 Tactical Range Ready Bag. In my experience, 5.11 Tactical makes good gear, and this bag is certainly good gear. Are you using just any old duffel as your range bag?
