Off The Grid Concepts MKi ADR

Off The Grid Concepts (OTG) recently came up with a new holster system called the ADR, which stands for Adaptive Draw Rig. There are three versions of the ADR: MKi, MKii, and MKiii. The MKi version, which is reviewed here, is made from .06″ Kydex and is designed for appendix carry.

What originally interested me in the MKi ADR was a photo the OTG posted to Facebook. To me, it looked like it was more robust than a minimalist holster like the much loved PHLster Skeleton, but without the bulk of some other appendix carry rigs. It also doesn’t use soft loops, which was intriguing, so I ordered one for my Glock 19 to give it a try.

Features

There’s nothing revolutionary about the MKi ADR design, but it has some features that I really like, and features that a lot of other holsters don’t have.

Materials and Colors

As mentioned, the MKi ADR is made from .06″ Kydex, which I prefer to .08″ for inside the waistband (IWB) carry, and it comes in a plethora of colors including Hydro dipped MultiCam. The MKi ADR uses a Kydex bracket with a molded clip as the belt attachment mechanism, instead of a soft loop, that is made from .125″ Kydex.

I generally prefer clips to soft loops, and this bracket/clip works well. The bracket is angled slightly away from the holster to help turn the holster back into your body and reduce printing.

Cut

I like the cut of the MKi ADR. There’s no extra material, and the holster has a nice cut around the trigger guard allowing for a full firing grip when drawing the pistol.

Retention

Retention is of course very subjective, almost to the point where I’m considering not talking about it in my reviews anymore. Everyone prefers retention at a different level, so saying a holster’s retention is good or bad is pretty irrelevant to you, the reader.

Having said that, I thought the retention on the MKi ADR was a bit too tight. Rob at OTG offered to adjust it for me, but I decided to do it myself with a hair dryer. 30 seconds later, the retention is exactly how I like it.

Lead Times

Lead times are pretty reasonable at 3-4 weeks. For those who can’t or don’t want to wait, rush delivery is available for an extra fee.

Concealed Carry

I tested the MKi ADR with my Glock 19, carrying in the appendix position. The MKi ADR carries really well, even better than expected to be honest. I really like the Kydex bracket and clip and the way it turns the holster into the body. I found it very comfortable with none of the poking that you get with some appendix holsters. The MKi ADR is also tuckable, for those of you looking for that feature.

The Glock 19 isn’t a huge gun, but it’s not small either, and I never had any trouble concealing it in the MKi ADR.

Wrapping Up

The MKi ADR is an awesome holster, and I’ve found myself using it more and more. It’s not quite as minimalist as my other Glock 19 favorite, the PHLster Skeleton, but honestly there isn’t much practical size difference when carrying. It’s well made, good quality, and at the time of writing, is being sold for $60 which is pretty good value.

If you’re looking for an appendix rig that is well made that doesn’t use a soft loop, check out the MKi ADR.

I generally don’t like clips, but this one looks pretty small. Any chance it will break over time?

There’s certainly a chance, yeah, but as long as the retention isn’t too hot, there shouldn’t be a lot of strain put on the bracket/clip. Time will tell. If it breaks I will definitely update the review with that info.

In the event of a breakage the clips are covered under warranty no questions asked for 1 year. After that time it’s a case by case basis. We are generally very liberal with our warranty though.

Did the holster you test have either the reduced cut or sweat shield options?

No reduced cut, and it has a full sweat shield.

I bought one of these for my m&p shield and it is by far my favorite holster now. I would highly recommend OTG to anyone in the market for a high quality iwb holster.
