Post-Election Preparedness

Another divisive election is coming to a close today in America. Well maybe. Let’s hope so anyways. No matter how you voted, I think we can all agree that a long, drawn out political mess with thousands of lawyers arguing over votes is not in our country’s best interest.

Whatever the outcome, it’s clear to those who are paying attention that America faces some tough times ahead, regardless of who wins. To that end, you can expect more preparedness posts and reviews in the coming months, but it’s important to pay attention to what happens with the election.

Post-Election Protests and Riots

In certain parts of America, depending on the outcome of the Presidential election, tonight and tomorrow could get ugly. I certainly hope that it doesn’t, but the potential is there. If you live in an urban environment, I encourage a little extra vigilance. Hopefully all goes well and Americans remember that we are Americans first and foremost, but it’s best to be prepared.

Most bad situations can simply be avoided with a little situational awareness. Pay attention to what’s going on both nationally and in your area. If one side feels like it was cheated in the election by the other side, things could get dangerous. We have already had reports of people calling for riots if their candidate loses. This could, of course, be nonsense posturing, but let’s face it – people these days don’t need much of an excuse to riot.

Keep your eyes open and your head down.

My entire post-election prep was to order a stack of Glock 19 mags I’ve been meaning to grab. I know at least locally, if things turn out a certain way, the local shop will be crossing off the hundreds digit on anything that has a pistol grip and a separate magazine location and increasing it one or two.

I predict that we’ll continue to amaze much of the world by a total lack of violence upon learning the outcome.

Hope you’re right about the lack of violence.

A good reminder. If people will riot when they lose a baseball game, or win a baseball game, then rioting over the election isn’t outside the realm of possibilities. I’m with you, hopefully it doesn’t happen, but important to be aware.

We are a democracy and everyone has a right to vote for the candidate of their choice. We should respect our right to vote and not get all crazy because our candidate did not win. But still, there are the crazies out there that think violence is the answer to their candidate losing. I will be prepared to take whatever means necessary to protect myself and my property. Many foreign countries resort to violence for everything. I hope we can demonstrate to them how democracy really works.

Like Rodger says, democracy works because we use the ballot box, and because we DON’T riot in the streets like other countries sometimes do.

Wishing for a peaceful, uneventful night for everybody.
