A Year In The Life Of An Amateur Photographer

Photo by Brian Cornett, Devil Dog Designs.

Brian Cornett is a USMC veteran, the owner of Devil Dog Designs (D3), as well as an amateur photographer in the Dallas, TX area. A little over a year ago, Brian started a project called “A Year In The Life Of An Amateur Photographer,” where he set out to take one photo a day, every day, for a year. His intent was to put the photos into a book to capture his year long journey. Along the way, however, Brian’s plans changed.

One morning early into the project, Brian found himself in downtown Dallas, where he met a lot of homeless people. That day Brian spoke to over a dozen homeless people, and found that at least two-thirds of them were veterans. Needless to say, this hit Brian very hard.

Brian started spending his weekends with these homeless vets, bringing them food and water, old baseball caps, and most importantly, hearing their stories. The more research he did on the epidemic that is homeless veterans, the more Brian felt like he had to help.

In order to raise awareness and funds to help out homeless veterans, Brian is raising money to put together a book of his 365 photos which will be sold with 100% of the proceeds split between Wounded Warriors and Homeless Veterans Service of Dallas (HVSD), two organizations that do tremendous work in helping veterans.

Brian has two fundraising campaigns that launched today, one with Kickstarter and the other with IndieGoGo. If you would like to join me in donating to Brian’s campaigns, the links are below. Whether you are financially able to contribute or not, please help spread the word. Thanks.
