Biometric Registration

First off, I hope all of you are having a great Mother’s Day. Without our mothers, we would of course not exist, so thank you to all the moms out there who chose LIFE.

Today’s topic comes from a news story on the immigration bill, and is a bit different than what we normally talk about on Monderno. However, it’s potentially a serious infringement on our privacy and our right to bear arms.

This is from Wired, emphasis added:

The immigration reform measure the Senate began debating yesterday would create a national biometric database of virtually every adult in the U.S., in what privacy groups fear could be the first step to a ubiquitous national identification system.

Buried in the more than 800 pages of the bipartisan legislation (.pdf)  is language mandating the creation of the innocuously-named “photo tool,” a massive federal database administered by the Department of Homeland Security and containing names, ages, Social Security numbers and photographs of everyone in the country with a driver’s license or other state-issued photo ID.

Employers would be obliged to look up every new hire in the database to verify that they match their photo.

This piece of the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act is aimed at curbing employment of undocumented immigrants. But privacy advocates fear the inevitable mission creep, ending with the proof of self being required at polling places, to rent a house, buy a gun, open a bank account, acquire credit, board a plane or even attend a sporting event or log on the internet. Think of it as a government version of Foursquare, with Big Brother cataloging every check-in.

You can read the entire story here.

The emphasis is just one reason why I fear this database, but it’s a huge reason nonetheless. Think about it for a second – if this database is created, and they require it to be checked every time a gun is purchased, then it would in effect create the national registry that politicians have wanted for so long.

Not to mention that it could be used to track your every movement and catalog where you go, what you do, what you purchase, etc. Remind you of anything?

This gooberment is nothing but control freaks, they always know what’s best for us
The worst things that ever happened to this country was the socialist brainwashing in the schools and the massive pussification of America
The majority of Americans are spineless and need to be told what to do
Thank God we still have brave men and women that join the military, sad part is we have the brainwashed spineless handcuffing these brave men and women
    “Your papers please”

On a good note, I started cleaning my gun room and found extra ammo, 2 cases of shotgun shells, 500 rounds of 5.56 and 300 rounds of .45 ACP that was stashed in a corner that I forgot I had
