Concealed Carry and Paranoia

If you carry a gun, you’ve likely heard it before – “what are you afraid of?” I know I have, many times. As if the only possible reason behind my choice to carry a gun is paranoia. In his latest video for the NRA News, Billy Johnson addresses this topic, and makes a great point:

Everyone out there who tries to portray [concealed carry] as paranoid thinking, and evidence of an irrationally suspicious mind, consider this: what does it say about you, that you are afraid of people who are legally exercising their right to bear arms?

There is so much that can be and has been said in regards to this topic. To have any chance at being effective in conveying a message, it has to be simple. To this end I offer the ‘condom mantra’; I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. I have never in my thus far short time heard anyone say, “damn, I wish I didn’t have this rubber on me.”

This is the exact same logic that the police use when they claim, “if you’ve got noting to hide then why not surrender your rights and answer answer my questions or let me search your person/property. It is a police state logic we must all fight against.

It should have read “nothing” to hide.
