Connecticut Elementary Shooting

Another school shooting happened today, this time at an elementary school in Newton, Connecticut. My heart absolutely breaks for those kids, the teachers, their families, and the community. Such a senseless tragedy that no one should have to face, let alone a child. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected.

We will learn more about this tragedy and the monster responsible in the coming days and weeks I’m sure, and there will of course be renewed talk of taking away our guns. It’s inevitable, so be ready for it.

In the meantime, how should we, the firearms community, respond? How can we prevent stuff like this from happening? Currently, it’s being reported that 26 people are dead, 18 of them children. Is it possible that through the proper training that the number of fatalities could have been much fewer?

I don’t think anyone has all the answers, but Rob Pincus from I.C.E. Training has some interesting thoughts on the topic.

[blockquote]…we should be educating all people, especially those who work in high risk areas that are known “gun free zones”, in how to deal with the reality of firearms violence.[/blockquote]

You know what? He’s right. You can read the rest of Rob’s article here.

Arming school officials would cause the psychos to think twice about assaulting the innocent . Taking away our second amendment rights will just put everyone in danger . We all can’t hide under tight security like our brave politicians !

What a tragedy…there’s a special place in hell for people that would do something like this. I agree with Coachpan – arm the teachers who are willing to be trained.

I know others see this besides myself, these kinds of mass murders all tend to take place in “Gun Free Zones”. A “Gun Free Zone” has never stopped a criminal from continuing to be a criminal and exercising their choice to falunt the laws, so I guess the question is “Why are we continuing to allow these ‘free fire’ zones in our communities?” Why are we continuing to criminalize those law abiding citizens who’s only wish is to protect themselves and their families by making them into criminals if they enter a “Gun Free Zone” armed? Just how pathetic are we as a nation going to become if we continue to allow criminals access to areas where they know that they cannot be reasonably opposed?

Sad day for those children and their families, and for those who survived but will retain the scars left behind by a madman.
