Descendants of Sparta Giveaway Rifle

It all started with Dean and Amber from 2 Vets Arms.

2 Vets Arms Spartan Lower

2 Vets Arms Spartan Lower

Several months ago, 2 Vets Arms put together a limited run of 300 Spartan AR-15 lower receivers to raise funds and awareness for Gallant Few’s Descendants of Sparta. If you don’t already know, Descendants of Sparta is a nonprofit organization with a goal of reducing veteran unemployment, veteran homelessness and eliminating veteran suicide.

I purchased one of these lowers without knowing much about 2 Vets Arms simply because I wanted to support a great cause. Since that purchase, I’ve gotten to know and become good friends with the folks at 2 Vets, and not only do they make great rifles, but they are great people as well.

After purchasing the lower, I floated the idea of using it in a giveaway build to support Descendants of Sparta, and a bunch of companies immediately stepped up to donate parts.

Final Build Details

Here are the details of the build chambered in 5.56, and the awesome companies who donated to make this giveaway possible.

it really sucks that if i were to enter i couldnt win it anyway if my name was chosen because i live in New York State. excuse the language but its not fair to the residents here because of the asshole politicians we have! Maybe it could be delivered in pieces( just a thought).

    • Brandon March 15, 2013 at 12:36 pm #

Sorry Ruben but we’re not going to break the law. You can still donate to a great cause.

      • Ashland March 17, 2013 at 3:15 pm #

Question. I live in New York state as well. The FFL dealers are still selling to LEO’s. Would you guys still ship FFL if its the winner is a LEO?

        • Brandon March 17, 2013 at 3:35 pm #

I will let Texas Custom Guns make that call if/when it comes down to that.

          • Independence Party March 21, 2013 at 12:38 pm #

I hope not. If taxpayers can’t own them LEO’s shouldn’t get to own them either

    • Kevin March 15, 2013 at 12:53 pm #

For those of you who live in non-free states, the solution is simple, get out!
      Move and never look back.

      • SamAdams March 17, 2013 at 6:31 pm #

That’s like running from your house when you get cockroaches, Hell no don’t give them your home, fight back. Leaving the state gives them control of the state.

        • Jim Hosten March 17, 2013 at 7:39 pm #

Let them have it. You’ve clearly already lost it. We can use you to further strengthen the free states.

        • booker March 27, 2013 at 2:00 pm #

Take your tax money and GDP elsewhere, to a state where it’s appreciated. Let the Detroits and Camdens and Chicagos and Baltimores of the country rot until they are the pockets of extreme left-wing despair that cannot be ignored. Meanwhile, build up those states that do not work daily to limit individual freedoms and liberties.

      • Joe Clark March 19, 2013 at 2:39 pm #

I think the solution would be to start a recall of those politicians who voted for this bill or don’t re-elect them, or take the bill to court as an infringement upon U.S. Constitutional rights, or whatever a competent attorney can use as a basis for a lawsuit.

    • Keith March 17, 2013 at 10:17 am #

I agree Ruben, I also live in NY. If I win though, I will ask the transferring FFL to sell it and then I will donate the proceeds to this or other great causes.

    • Justb March 17, 2013 at 10:55 am #

You could have it delivered to an out of state FFL and pick it up from there.

      • NV March 17, 2013 at 2:22 pm #

Uh no you can’t. If you’re a legal resident of ANY State, you CAN NOT go to a different state and have the firearm transferred to you there. The FFL there will slap you stupid.

        • JED March 18, 2013 at 2:12 pm #

Umm yes you can. Only handguns are regulated by interstate commerce. I have gone across state lines and bought Rifles before. Like I said you can’t buy handguns interstate but you can buy Rifles interstate. But here is the kicker, if you come across and you came from a ban state to a non-ban state, and the rifle you are trying to buy violates your states laws they will not sell to you. That is where it gets tricky. That is why I live in the midwest because they don’t have any stupid laws (except for the Liberal stronghold of Illinois).

    • Alex March 19, 2013 at 2:27 pm #

Send it to an FFL in another state, make the drive, take it home. Adapt, improvise, and overcome. If you want something done, there is always a way.

  2. Jake March 15, 2013 at 12:39 pm #

Awesome rifle, better cause. I’m in.

To those of you who live in commie states – quit bitching, and either change your state or move.

    • Jim Hosten March 17, 2013 at 7:41 pm #

      >change your state
      >move

      Aren’t these the same thing?

      • Jake March 17, 2013 at 7:45 pm #

No – change your state, as in change it politically, fix the problems.

        • amistoso April 2, 2013 at 8:50 pm #

          That’s what i understood! 🙂

  3. Angelus Han March 15, 2013 at 12:40 pm #

Great cause guys….As a former Veteran I know how hard it is to transition to civ life and Try to find work, Its almost shameful that our Brothers & Sisters in arms bleed for our country and have to come back facing such tragedy…I donated and those reading this should too because, Unlike my current government I care and my actions speak louder than their words.

  4. Mr. Han March 15, 2013 at 12:42 pm #

Thats Exactly what I did….I got sick and tired of livin in Cali and letting everybody else enjoy the freedoms I fought for…so I moved to Virginia. 😛

    • Kevin March 15, 2013 at 1:01 pm #

Bravo Han, that’s what am talking about. I left Cali roughly 10 yrs., ago as it wasn’t great then but now it’s worst. I never have went back & have no desire too.
Diane Feinstein can have it along with her little squad of minions

  5. Scott March 15, 2013 at 6:09 pm #

Thank you for this opportunity to both contribute to a great cause as well as possibly take home a sweet piece of hardware. Mostly, thank you for bringing more awareness to GallantFew and the awesome work Karl and crew do!

  6. Kevin Brake March 15, 2013 at 6:23 pm #

Escaped from San Diego in 2004 now enjoying sunny AZ where the 2A is alive and well.

  7. Greg N March 17, 2013 at 8:51 am #

Are donations to this cause considered tax-deductible? I don’t recall seeing that mentioned, but if it is pointed out, it may draw more to participate.

    • Brandon March 17, 2013 at 8:56 am #

      Good point, updated.

  8. Ms. Badger March 17, 2013 at 10:19 am #

What a great cause! Thank you for helping my fellow brother and sister veterans. Your work is appreciated. It would be so awesome if that rifle ended up in this lil badger’s hands.

  9. Jay Pearson March 17, 2013 at 10:21 am #

I made my Donation .. it wasn’t much.. but it is what I could do.. to win this rifle would be amazing!!! but I realize how slight the chances really are that I would be picked…That aside i am glad I could help out GallantFew and the Decendants of Sparta!!!..Thank you to all the sponsors for donating a phenomenal build for a great cause!!!

    • Cody Lee March 17, 2013 at 10:35 am #

Same here, every little bit counts though!

  10. Phil Coley March 17, 2013 at 10:32 am #

Is there a method to donate besides Paypal? Thank you and everyone else for supporting our Veterans!

    • Brandon March 18, 2013 at 10:18 pm #

Not at this time Phil. Thanks.

  11. BrandonR March 17, 2013 at 11:44 am #

Veteran here and still haven’t found a job since I got out a little over a year ago. Even still, this a great cause and I’m donating. Thanks for recognition of something that isn’t addressed enough.

    • Eli March 17, 2013 at 12:40 pm #

I’m also a Veteran and was unemployed for 8 months. Only jobs where I live are cashier and cart pushing. Also Americanized sweat shops that pays you $8 to $10 for meeting daily quotas.

  12. Jeremy March 17, 2013 at 1:41 pm #

So, if we end up donating more than once, will all the donations together be counted as entries? For example, I’ve donated $20 already, but if I donate another $30 before 3.31, will I get a total of 5 entries, or does only the first donation count?

    • Brandon March 17, 2013 at 1:46 pm #

Yes that’s exactly how it will work. I will get a spreadsheet from DOS with names and aggregated amounts. You can donate in chunks or all at once, it doesn’t matter. Your entries will be the same.

  13. Daniel Edwards March 17, 2013 at 1:43 pm #

Donated. Sounds like a great cause. Hope I win the rifle give away!

  14. Tom Seebold March 17, 2013 at 2:12 pm #

Will you announce the winner of the AR give away on this site?

    • Brandon March 17, 2013 at 2:34 pm #

      Yes.

  15. Sal M March 17, 2013 at 2:51 pm #

Sounds like a great cause, but I think you are losing out on a lot of donations due to excluding hardline states like CA. Like it or not, most of the people donating are only doing it for a chance at the rifle. A $30 bullet button and a no mag option your not offering is gonna cost you thousands in donations unfortunately.

For those of you bashing people living in “commie states”, most of us here are not here by choice. A lot of us have no choice, our jobs and families are here. I personally was stationed here, and to fault me for that is ignorant.

    • Dean March 18, 2013 at 10:20 pm #

If you would read the comments, you would read that we will try our best to make this compliant for states like CA… So guess what, one would need to donate to try to win it.. But just like people who ask dumb questions like the 14.5″ barrel not being legal, you didn’t read all the way through were the comp is pinned… (CA legal), it has a B5 Bravo stock, we can pin that, so we add a bullet button and voila you have a CA compliant rifle!!!!

I’m not against communist states residents, just dumb people who don’t read and follow simple instructions…..

  16. Desiree March 17, 2013 at 3:16 pm #

I donated and while it would be sweet if I won it’s a greatvcause and I’m happy to help out.

  17. Bill March 17, 2013 at 3:52 pm #

Im in! Great cause by a great organization! Awesome rifle as well!

  18. Adam March 17, 2013 at 5:04 pm #

The cause is to fight homelessness…. WITH THIS RIFLE!

    LOAD UP AND HOBO HUNT!

  19. greg March 17, 2013 at 5:23 pm #

I live in california.could the dealer just put a bullet button on it to make it california legal?

  20. NV March 17, 2013 at 9:50 pm #

Just talked to 2VetArms on FB and they said they will neuter the gun if the winner is from a dumb state.

  21. Brian Dickey March 17, 2013 at 10:14 pm #

    I donated, good luck everyone.

  22. DC March 17, 2013 at 11:17 pm #

Are there any of the lower receivers left for sale?

    • Brandon March 18, 2013 at 8:25 am #

I don’t think so, you’d have to ask 2 Vets Arms.

  23. charles March 17, 2013 at 11:30 pm #

    I don’t see the link!

    • Brandon March 18, 2013 at 8:24 am #

Look for the rather large text at the bottom of the post that says “Donate to Descendants of Sparta Here”.

  24. Hillbilly Bob March 17, 2013 at 11:38 pm #

I am donating what I can, I hope to win it to arm my neighbors out here in the boonies so they don’t have to depend on their 30-06 bolt gun haa
I already know the odds are stacked against me pretty bad with 2 entries but if i hit the lottery within the next 12 days I will buy quite a few of them

  25. Rob March 17, 2013 at 11:41 pm #

Donated $65. I’ve never served but 2 of my brothers did. We have lost contact but I hope this helps. I was injured as a firefighter and thankfully had a safety net. It pains me how you guys are being labeled as the future terrorist when it’s the ones who are labeling you who are the true terrorist. If the day ever comes ill be there by your side

  26. Hillbilly Bob March 17, 2013 at 11:46 pm #

I have another question, I imagine the winners name will be posted on here from the credit card entry
Since there is no email address on the billing info how will you know someone else doesnt claim to be the winner by using the winners name?

    • Brandon March 18, 2013 at 8:26 am #

We’ll be able to easily verify who the winner is by asking them to prove their address.

  27. Andrew March 18, 2013 at 7:08 am #

I live in NY but have a place in PA would that disqualify me from winning?

    • Brandon March 18, 2013 at 8:27 am #

Um, I’m not an FFL so I don’t know how those laws work. Try asking 2 Vets Arms, Texas Custom Guns or another FFL.

      • Andrew March 18, 2013 at 8:53 am #

Thank you for the help Brandon

    • Curt March 18, 2013 at 9:46 am #

You have to take the transfer in the state that you are a legal resident (the address on your driver’s license). Even if you are a PA resident, you would not be able to bring this rifle into NY in it’s current form. If you want to enter NY with it you would have to have the stock pinned in place so it’s not collapsible, get a 7 round magazine and verify that the muzzle device is not considered a flash hider.

  28. Jennifer Smith March 18, 2013 at 8:41 am #

For those of you in “non free-states”!
I want you to know there’s a Carolina girl out here who’s got your back. Another great cause to donate to is the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association who is fighting the SAFE act. I have no desire to ever go to New York, but I’ve heard some famous guy once said, “Injustice to man anywhere is injustice to man everywhere”. No U.S. citizen in any state deserves to have their constitutional rights taken away & I’m not sitting on the side lines in Caroline.

  29. Jake March 18, 2013 at 5:32 pm #

Trust tried donating, but since it’s a prepaid Visa card I guess it won’t let me. Keep getting an error. I’ll see if I can do something else, but I’m glad to see everyone donating.

  30. Kurt March 18, 2013 at 10:44 pm #

I am a lawyer, and what you are doing looks suspiciously like a raffle to me. You can’t just say it’s not a raffle and it not be a raffle. You need to look at the form, and the form looks very much like a raffle to my eyes, because you are selling tickets – it’s just that the money (consideration) is going to a third party rather than directly to you, but that usually doesn’t matter.

    • Brandon March 19, 2013 at 9:53 am #

Thanks for your concern, but your opinion is based on a faulty premise. We are not selling tickets. We are giving people who donate to Gallant Few an entry into a giveaway, nothing more.

      • greg March 19, 2013 at 10:02 am #

wasn’t it shakespeare who said kill all the lawyers? and they wonder why they are the most despised group of people on the planet?lol

  31. Obscura March 21, 2013 at 1:19 pm #

I’m in with a small donation. Wish I could donate more but I’m still between jobs.

  32. Dan March 21, 2013 at 8:43 pm #

Might just want to do first name, last initial or a few letters of the last name on the announcement so that the winner doesn’t get trolled and hate mailed off the internet like the guy who won an AR in Pittsburg did.

    • Brandon March 21, 2013 at 8:47 pm #

There’s no way the trolls could find the winner on first name/last name alone. They would at minimum need to know where the winner lives, which will not be disclosed. Having said that, if the winner has a very unique name, I’ll see what I can do about protecting their identity.

      • Nikki March 26, 2013 at 5:56 pm #

I’d love for some idiots to bother me if I win. Heck, I’ll post a picture of me with the gun in front of an american flag and my full name and address printed on posterboard in front of me. I welcome the libtards commentary.

On second thought, maybe I’m more concerned about the government knowing what I own as opposed to the liberals…

  33. Dan March 21, 2013 at 9:06 pm #

Thanks. Just googled me. Address pops right up and I’m only one in the US apparently. Others might have the same problem. Thanks! Now all I have to do is win!

    • Brandon March 21, 2013 at 9:12 pm #

No problem. Keep in mind that Google knows your location and it will base your search results as such. It takes into account other factors, like what you surf on the web, if you’re logged into a Google account, etc. If you want to see anonymous Google results, search your name using a proxy.

  34. Jordan Stephens March 22, 2013 at 9:57 am #

Damn nice giveaway, would be nice to win. As an AD soldier, this would definitely make an awesome rifle to train with outside work

  35. Kerry Deel March 22, 2013 at 10:25 pm #

Looks like I can’t enter because I’m broke. Being on disability does that for you. Good luck to every one who enters!

    • Eli March 23, 2013 at 8:46 am #

LOL, I’m on disability too and I donated. $10 is nothing. It’s a coffee at Starbucks or a meal.

      • Jay Pearson March 23, 2013 at 9:02 am #

If you can not donate, you can’t donate.. but I am sure Monderno and The Decendants of Sparta would appreciate your spreading the word on this ….. I know the 20 bucks I donated wasn’t much.. but every little bit helps.. and this is a great charity!

      • Kerry Deel March 26, 2013 at 1:18 am #

Considering that after paying bills I get to eat once a day to once every two or three days $10 is a big deal for me.

        • Kerry Deel March 26, 2013 at 1:26 am #

I have been sharing it on Face Book with every one. Once my check comes in I’ll see what I can do to donate.

    • booker April 3, 2013 at 8:59 am #

There are a lot of things you can do besides donate to help in this very important cause. One is simply spreading the word. Two is getting involved with some volunteer organizations like Wounded Warrior Foundation, Special Operations Warrior Foundation, and others. Three is going to events or volunteering at your local VA, working with Vets, helping them transition into civilian life and making sure they are supported financially, emotionally, and otherwise. While your disability may prevent you from engaging in many physical activities, that does not mean you cannot contribute through writing, speech, and other activities. Another big initiative within the DOD is to acknowledge and promote the inclusion of talented folks with disabilities, to recognize the contributions they make every day. Disabled doesn’t mean incapable, and that message has to be spread!

  36. Veteran March 24, 2013 at 3:53 pm #

As an OIF veteran who has had their own struggles and has known many friends still struggling, it is my honor to donate to this cause, if only a little bit. Thanks for the opportunity.

Excited to hear the results… not just of the rifle winner, but for how much this effort raised for Gallant Few and their important cause.
