How Americans Die

Bloomberg released a data visualization tool today that is pretty fascinating and well worth your time to check out. It’s called How Americans Die, and shows an interactive analysis of what has killed Americans over the past 30 years.

There are many things in the tool that stood out to me, one of which is the screenshot below:

How Americans Die

The yellow line is the “murder by firearm” category, and as you can see, it’s at or near an all-time low here in the United States (also worth noting is that accidental death by firearms has hardly changed over the past 30 years).

If you read Monderno, you probably already knew this, but consider the source for a second: this tool was created by Bloomberg Visual Data, a team within Bloomberg News that creates “editorially-driven interactive data products for the global business consumer.” Bloomberg News, the company co-founded by the anti-gun Michael Bloomberg himself.

I wonder if he has seen this tool? Check it out here.

Update 4/18/2014: For those interested, it looks like the Bloomberg Visual Data team used the CDC Assault/Homicide data, not the FBI Uniform Crime Reports. The CDC and FBI numbers are slightly different because they come from different sources, but both show a downward trend in violent crime to include murder by firearm.

Good stuff is hard to say when it comes from a company founded by the megalomanic Bloomberg, but these graphs are pretty damn good.

How’s that War on Drugs working for you, opps not very well. Lets just reverse the Drug death and Gun deaths to make our protest look good; I’m referring to the crazies in the later post.

Guess Bloomberg will be disappointed then won’t he? Or will he spin the numbers like our current administration did with the Obamacare applications?

11078 people. That’s a lot of people, especially if one of them was your mother, your child, your spouse. The graph does not address how many of those 11,078 people would be alive today if the firearm used was not so easily available to anyone at gun shows.

Something tells me you’ve never bought a gun at a gun show. I have, many times. Don’t believe the idiot politicians, the background check process is exactly the same. The only time a background check isn’t required is in the case of person to person transfers where both parties are residents of the same state. In other words, the vast MINORITY of what actually goes on at a gun show.

Shutting down gun shows or closing the nonexistent “gun show loophole” would do exactly nothing to prevent crime. Don’t believe me? Just look at Chicago.

Using your same logic how many of the 35332 would still be alive if vehicles were harder to get. A gun is far less accessible then a car but a car is much easier to get.

Looks like they pulled it off their site.
