And Jesse James accepted. Check this out.

From Facebook:

Jesse James of Jesse James Firearms Unlimited has accepted our offer and we plan on flying out to Austin for a good old fashioned Texas style shoot out. We’ll be shooting at targets, though.

Thank you Jesse for accepting our offer. We look forward to any opportunity to visit Texas.

If you don’t know what’s going on, here’s a high level overview: Jesse James Firearms Unlimited (JJFU) recently launched a $4,500 suppressor called the Areo Sonic, shown below. JJFU claims on their website that the Aero Sonic measures 78 decibels at the muzzle with 5.56 ammo, though they did not specify which load. If memory serves, 78 decibels is ~30 decibels QUIETER than the bolt closing on an AR-15, which has led some to call BS on JJFU’s claims.

I for one am looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

Thanks to my buddy Nam for the heads up!

Yeah, good on Liberty for calling this idiot out, because 78 decibels is total BS.

The fact that James accepted the challenge has to count for something…I mean WHAT IF IT’S TRUE?!? Ok I’ll stop yelling, but hot damn, that would be amazing.

To accept a challenge is child’s play. To show up, to be in the arena, is where men are separated from boys.

I do agree though, a suppressor that reduced noise to 78dB would be amazing.

As a person that has tried to study the science of silencers, I don’t see this design performing any better than silencers that are currently on the market – silencers that cost $800 – $1200 that are backed by good companies that will stand behind their product.

This basic design really isn’t all that different. If you look into the history of silencers you will find one that looks and is built similarly. It was a good while back and hasn’t ever gone anywhere.

I would imagine the JJFU silencer will either never make it to market or there will be a big public release explaining the mistakes JJFU (or some scapegoat) made in their prior testing.

To put it simply, this is a put up or shut up situation. When a person can’t back up what they have said, they rarely show up in the arena and if they do show up in the arena they don’t last long.

I am eager to see how this turns out, regardless of the result. It may be peculiar looking, but if it can drop a standard load to “snapping fingers” quiet, maybe $4,500 isn’t such a bad price for the initial run?

Also nice that they seem to civil about this little competition instead of engaging in cyber mud-slinging.

    • Brandon January 26, 2015 at 2:44 pm #

Completely agree, just a friendly little competition. Very cool of both companies.

    Subsonic ammo?
My homebuilt Maglite silencer (Yes, I have the Tax Stamp) kills the BOOM but the supersonic crack is REALLY loud on my 5.56 AR. Still need the ears. Handload subsonic rounds make a nice quite “poof” exiting. The action is louder than the round. Of course I have to manually cycle the rifle.
Oh, the cost? About $70 worth of parts, the Form 1 and other documents and the $200 to ATF. And a 9 month wait.

    My money is on JJFU

    • Mike January 27, 2015 at 9:44 am #

My money is on physics – JJ is full of crap.

My Money is on Jesse. People can say what they want about him and have opinions because of his personal life. I think hes a good business man and innovative and doubts he would make the claim and ruin his business. that being said, the price he has on it is the only think I think is crazy.

We’re only 7 hours from Austin. We’d love to be there. Ish is currently in Iraq but should be back soon. A $4500 suppressor? Must-see.

Refer to yourself in the 3rd person? Cmon dude…

Now if this is the Mighty Ish that drove the ISIS folks from Kurdistan, then my apologies. I’ve heard a many great things about this fine warrior…

I secured an incredible private facility in South Austin to host this demonstration. We were all looking forward to some friendly competition and a fun industry gathering.
The way things played out are quite telling.
At the end of the day…if you make remarkable claims about achieving impossible results, be prepared to be called out on it.
Just like any other field, peer review is the benchmark.

PS…I would have gladly counted out the bills if his can had a verifiable sound metering of 78 decibels.
I suppose I’ll invest my $4500 on more worthwhile investments….perhaps a unicorn saddle??
