Our Job

Dom Raso is back in episode 5 of NRA News, and it’s another great message. Dom starts out talking about the recent story out of New Jersey, where police raided the home of Shawn Moore, a firearms instructor, over a photo he posted to Facebook. The photo was his 11-year-old son safely holding a legally owned Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22.

This story hits home for me, as I’ve posted photos of my daughter holding this very same rifle. Thankfully though, I live in Texas and not New Jersey, and I doubt that I have to worry about such nonsense here. I also know that if the police showed up at my house without a warrant, I would bid them good day and close the door.

Dom then goes on to talk about the complacency in America, and how the general public seems to be moving more and more towards a complete nanny state (my words).

If you’re not standing up for what you believe in, you’re wrong.

Well worth your time to watch.

Let’s talk about this situation in New Jersey recently, where the police raided a law-abiding citizen’s house because he posted a photo of his son that was obviously handling a .22 caliber rifle safely on Facebook.

They didn’t have a warrant. They asked to search the entire house and look through his gun safe. They threatened to take his kids away from him.

And for what reason exactly? Because somebody got a tip on a child abuse hotline?

Was his son in any harm, in any way?

The father is an NRA-certified instructor, his kid has a hunting license in New Jersey — which means he had to pass a hunter safety course — and now they’re getting harassed by the government and they’re threatening to take his kids away.

How does that make any sense at all? I have no clue.

I know for a fact, I’ve got buddies on the ground level of law enforcement, and knowing them, I guarantee you those guys that went into that house to do this raid knew that this wasn’t the right thing for them to do.

This attitude is all coming from the higher authorities and the politicians in this country.

So you’re honestly telling me that I can’t even post pictures on the internet, if I go hunting with my nephew or hunting with my kid and they’re holding a gun, I’ve got to be worried about that as a citizen?

I have to watch what I do and watch what pictures I post because my door might get kicked in.

Now you’ve got everybody walking on eggshells, worrying about, what soda can I drink, what gun can I use to protect my family, what car can I drive to work?

Is that really how we want to live our lives in this country?

From what I’ve seen, people have gotten so complacent with their responsibility as a citizen.

If you’re not standing up for what you believe in, you’re wrong, period.

Because when you don’t stand up, you let the politicians and the guys with all the money run this country.

Michael Bloomberg is the only donor for his entire anti-gun group, and he’s throwing millions of dollars out there to put politicians and celebrities on camera.

And they’re talking about banning guns and weapons of war and banning magazines and background checks. There’s no facts to back it up at all. It’s all soundbites.

Guarantee me that any criminal or any future criminal in this country doesn’t have and won’t have access to the weapon of their choice. Whether it be from the very real black or shipped over one of our borders. Only when you can give me that type of tremendous assurance, only then can you even begin to think about changing the rights of the good people that follow the rules.

Why do we never see the blue collar guys on Bloomberg’s camera? The guys that are busting their ass. The guys that are doing the work every single day and get the job done, the guys on the scene and on the ground — because those are the guys who know exactly what it takes to defend their families. The guys who understand reality in America. They don’t buy these soundbites.

Grabbing at guns and saying we need to ban everything is easy. It’s the easy button. It’s hard to defend the constitution. It’s hard and it takes effort to protect freedom, and it takes effort to be free.

It’s easy to sit at your house and go to work every day and forget that you have a responsibility to run this country.

You have the power.

Because it’s not the politicians’ job to run the country. That’s our job. And we need to start doing it.
