In response to the massive panic buying of everything AR-15, the folks over at Shadow Ops Weaponry are putting together a great pre-order deal on billet stripped lower receivers.
This is from the Shadow Ops website:
Our goal is to have all of these lowers before any legislation goes into effect in July of 2013. We are guestimating that it will take 3 months past January to come up with a law to ban AR-15 from new manufacture and an 90-day notice to us to stop manufacturing.

At $150, that’s a steal. It’s a bit of a wait, but I think you’ll be hard pressed to find a billet lower for less. If you’re looking for a lower, you might want to get in on this one. Thanks to my buddy Nam for the heads up.
What’s your take on billet vs. forged?
I own both forged and billet receivers both upper and lower, and I have yet to break any of them. Having said that, billet (machined) receivers can be stronger (see comments below).
Just an FYI, forged receivers are actually stronger than billet
All things being equal, my understanding is that you’re right, but billet receivers (machined from solid stock) tend to have added material in certain areas because the CNC process allows more flexibility in the design.
Having said all that, I’m by no means a metallurgic expert, and like I said, I’ve never broken any of my receivers, either forged or billet.
Thanks for commenting.
So you think it’a a good idea to buy a product that has no track record and hope it will work? I don’t think so…. You could end up with a $150 paper weight. Also is this a 80 90 or 100% receiver? If it’s a 100% it has to have serial numbers and if it’s not it don’t. 100% receivers are sold as a gun and needs FFL. No numbers….no FFL or registration. Somebody is not thinking this out here.
I’m not sure who your comment is directed at, but my understanding is that they are complete lowers, and yes, FFL transferred. What are you referring to?
I think Camo is possibly just looking at a pic and assuming the lower is 80% because he sees nothing on it (trigger, etc). If you follow the “Read more and order here” link it clearly states they need to ship to an FFL, which means they are serialized.
There are outfits out there that are selling 80% lowers that are not serialized. You have that benefit of course but you have to do machining and drilling etc yourself.
