Smart Gun Designer Says He Respects the Second Amendment

Ernst Mauch, the lead designer of the Armatix iP1 “smart” gun, says that he has a “deep appreciation and respect for the United States’ firearms culture.” Do you believe him? Because I don’t.

It turns out that Mr. Mauch, who is the managing director of Armatix GmbH, which makes the iP1, is quite the accomplished firearms designer. In his opinion piece for the Washington Post, Mr. Mauch gives a brief overview of his accomplishments:

I have spent my entire life designing and developing firearms. My designs and patents, which include the USP family of pistols, the HK416 assault rifle, G36 assault rifle and XM25 grenade machine gun…[and] I am the first non-U.S. citizen to win the Chinn Award for small arms design.

Mr. Mauch then goes on to say that he believes gun owners should have the right to purchase his “smart” gun, because after all, smart guns are a smart choice for consumers, as he puts it. Well, let me help you out Ernst – we DO have the “right” to purchase your gun, but there are MANY reasons that, so far, no gun shops have started selling it. First and foremost is New Jersey:

Besides reliability in the face of danger, the opponents’ most pressing fear is that sales of the iP1 will trigger a New Jersey law mandating that all handguns in the state be personalized within three years of a smart gun’s going on sale anywhere in the United States. Similar proposals have been introduced in California and Congress.

But you’re not motivated by that potential near-monopoly in New Jersey, and the fascist states that will soon follow New Jersey’s lead, I’m sure. Your only motivation is to save the children, right? That’s why your company filed a patent application in 2006 that includes a remote kill switch for your firearms (read more at TTAG), so that your company can turn guns off via satellite, cell towers, etc.

To save the children.

Yes Mr. Mauch, you sound like you’re one helluva Constitution respecting freedom lover.

Is anyone surprised he worked for “you don’t need that” H&K?

      Not in the least.

Same here, H&K is dead to me
I wonder if New Joisey will try and rewrite their law to benefit their gun grabbing ways?
I would ask if that is even allowed or possible but with Joisey, NYC, shitcago and other gun grabbing strongholds it doesn’t matter

This isn’t about protecting our children. This is about having control over us. How can any gun manufacturer that would develop this say that they believe in our right to bear arms?

Oh dear…Why did I not read about the patent for the remote “makes you a defenseless sheep” kill switch in the news?

If you have seen the rep they sent you will know their selling point was a pretty girl ….not the gun itself . She was very good looking ( a solid 9) half dressed and had no clue about American gun culture … and wondered why we wouldn’t jump at the chance to own what she was selling
