Spartan Village Kydex Holsters

Pictured - Brittany wearing a Smith & Wesson Shield in a Spartan Village Kydex holster.

If you haven’t noticed, we at Monderno like a good Kydex holster. In need of an outside the waistband (OWB) holster for my Smith & Weston Shield, I turned to Spartan Village. With a claim of being the most comfortable on the market, I had to put it to the test.

Features

This holster is light, sturdy, and well made. Depending on the loops you order, it can be be worn inside or outside the waistband, but for this test I carried it OWB. Spartan Village offers three different degrees of cant (0 degree, slight, and aggressive) and three belt widths (1.5″, 1.75″, and 2″).

Materials and Colors

[image title=”Less material and more taper.” align=”right” lightbox=”true” size=”small” autoHeight=”true” icon=”zoom”]http://monderno.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/SV-Kydex-2.jpg[/image]Spartan Village uses less material than some Kydex shops without sacrificing strength. My favorite feature of this holster is the minimalistic cut. Not in the sense of the PHLster Skeleton, but in the way the holster is constructed. It has a stronger taper at the bottom and fewer loop adjustments than most others. Color options are black, olive drab, and coyote.

Quality and Value

The construction of my coyote holster is excellent. Fit and finish is spot on with very smooth edges, deep molding definition, and good quality hardware.

Retention

Retention is excellent. My Shield audibly clicks into place, rides close to the body, and draws smoothly. As with all Kydex, if you find the fit too tight just grab a hair dryer and loosen it up.

Wrapping Up

So how comfortable is it? In a word, VERY. I wear it all day without realizing it’s there. I’ve had issues finding a comfort sweet spot with some holsters, but not with this one. Concealment is also excellent. The minimalistic design and aggressive cant allows me to wear fitted shirts without fear of printing. Prices start in what seems to be the Kydex sweat-spot of $60. The combination of comfort and quality make it well worth a look.

One Response to Spartan Village Kydex Holsters

I am sad to learn that Spartan-Village is not taking any new orders for their kydex products. Under “Contact’ on their website there is a note stating that due to their backlog they will not be accepting any new holster requests until Fall 2013. In that message they hint to possible offering some new products.
