Taurus PT 24/7 Fires Without Pulling Trigger

Taurus is one of those manufacturers that people seem to either love or hate with very little room for middle ground (ok, they’re all pretty much that way). Having said that, whether you love Taurus or hate them, you might find this video interesting, especially if you own a Taurus PT 24/7.

This video is a longer version of the video circulated last year when nearly 100k Taurus 24/7 pistols were recalled for just this reason. I hadn’t seen this longer version prior to this morning, h/t to M3 Strategies for the find.

If you own a Taurus 24/7 I’d love to hear how it’s running for you.

I have 2 of the 24/7’s (9mm & .45 ACP) and have had no trouble what so ever out of either of them.

      Thanks Lyle.

I am skeptical, only because this is absolutely the only time I have heard of a Taurus doing this. I am not defending Taurus per say, I’m just saying this seems a bit fishy. I am sure Taurus will address this, because it is sure to go viral among the gun community. For what it’s worth, the gun in questions seems to be a Gen 1.

Well you shouldn’t be skeptical, the problem was well documented as was the recall (see links above).

Yeah thanks for sharing the longer version I hadn’t seen it either. I’m sure the Taurus fanboys will be along to tell you how awesome Taurus is soon, but the fact is, while all guns have recalls and problems from time to time, Taurus is the worst of them. The best thing about Taurus is Jessie Duff.

The only Taurus I have is an older revolver. I won’t buy one of their pistols. It seems their quality has suffered in the last several years.

That is scary! Holy Crud! I don’t have a 24/7 but I have two other Tauruses at home. Makes me want to go shake them in a safe place to make sure they are not going to do the same.

I’ve got a gen 1 in 40. Put a couple thousand rounds through it. Use and abuse it for target shooting, sidearm smashing and bouncing through thick cover while hunting. Carried it appendix daily. Never had a single issue with it. Love the gun, runs great, great ergonomics, and I love the options to carry in DA and SA.

I did notice some differences in the gun in video compared to mine. Mine doesn’t have the ambi safety, and the shape of the mag and the magwell of the one in the video looks completely different, more like the M&P pistols. For whatever that is worth…maybe a variant only available in Brazil (which is where I think this video is from, as I recall hearing that Brazilian Police got hit hard by his recall).

This was the model made for the Brazil police. This is not the one made for general public. I have a 24/7 G2 .45. I’ve had problems feeding HP ammo through it but all in all it’s an ok starter gun. It’s def one you don’t care too much about because you haven’t spent a ton of money. I’d still trust it with my life and carry it every day.

Glock has the “safe action” trigger… maybe this is Taurus’ new “shake action” trigger? 😉

My buddy has a PT 24/7, no issues other than it’s one of the ugliest 9mm’s I’ve ever shot.

I have a friend that bought one 5 years ago. His is a 40 cal. It works fine.

I’ve never owned a Tarus. And, considering I carry AIWB, I think I’ll just continue NOT owning one

Everybody’s got a cheapo brand they’re ok with, whether it’s Taurus, hi-point, Kel Tec or Ruger. They all pretty much stink but I’ll keep buying Kel-Tecs and a bunch of people will keep buying the rest.

I have a video of a similar malfunction happening during a mag change. We were doing a SWAT training down in Brazil, and Taurus had “loaned” us some of their guns to use for the training. The issue turned out to be with the feeding mechanism – immediately following the training we went back and met with the Taurus engineers and were able to see them troubleshoot, and start working on fixing the issue.

I will upload the video and shoot you a link later today. Taurus was really good to us while we were down in Brazil, and we have a longstanding relationship with the SWAT teams down there.

I personally don’t own any Taurus handguns though – I am a Glock fanboi. 😉

This turned out to be a “fortunate” incident, as no one was injured. It also reinforced to everyone attending the training of proper mechanics during a magazine change…

    Take care –

and to think that it actually passed the Calif “safety check”….. hummmm sounds like a payoff to me……

I have a Gen1 24/7 OSS .45, haven’t had any problems with it but then again I haven’t shook the sh*t out of it but if I did I’m sure it would be probably be fine.
