Texas Introduces Open Carry Bill

Texas Representative George Lavender has introduced HB 700, a bill that will allow Texans to openly carry a handgun.

Why This is a Good Idea

I know some of you out there are against open carry, but I’m not and here’s why. I’d love nothing more than to have the option of exercising my God-given, Constitutionally protected right openly or concealed, whatever suits my needs. Maybe I’d open carry, maybe I’d concealed carry. The point is, if open carry was legal, I’d have the option. Also, in Texas, printing is illegal. This bill would fix that little inconvenience.

If you would like to see this bill become law, contact your Representative and let them know.

Thanks to my buddy Lonnie at Texas Custom Guns for the heads up on this one.

If this passed, I would still carry concealed most of the time, but it would be nice to have the option to open carry…especially when it’s 100 Degrees out! Plus, I think it’s good for non gun people to see responsible citizens with guns.

    Contacted my reps!
I probably wouldn’t open carry, but agree with you on your points Brandon.

I think I feel the same way. My main concern is simply the strict policy on printing. As long as we still have the option to conceal I’m definitely for it. It shows that much more support towards our second Amendment.

The real issue, in my opinion, is that when you bend over and your shirt rides up exposing an inch of you gun, you’re still ok. Not being arrested for that is a nice fear not to have.

Frank has Nailed it. It doesn’t matter if you choose to carry concealed or not, the fact that a little printing or a shirt inadvertently exposing a firearm for a moment is a risk for Texas CCW carriers, and that should be fixed.
