What About California?

You’ve probably heard the recent gun control news out of California. A state that already has some of the most ridiculous gun laws (bullet button anyone?) is most likely going to get worse very soon. Much worse. This begs the question: what should firearms owners and Second Amendment supporters do about it?

Here’s my take.

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Let’s first talk about those of you who live in the state of California. First off, my condolences. While you live in one of the most beautiful states in the union, it’s also one of the most ridiculous. The unbelievable debt that California has racked up, the stifling socialism and gun control laws, your politicians, Hollyweird…the list goes on and on. Honestly, you couldn’t pay me enough to live in California.

The easy answer is of course to simply leave California for fairer shores, an answer I’ve given many times before. Vote with your feet, and let the liberals continue to trash California. Eventually the debt reset button will be hit, and provided the United States holds on long enough (which is debatable) there’s a chance that liberty can return to the left coast.

But some folks I know didn’t choose the tyranny, the tyranny chose them, so to speak. They were born in California, and/or circumstances have forced them to stay, whether that’s because of family or their job situation or whatever. So what about them? It can be difficult to just pick and leave.

If you’re forced to stay in California, then sitting around simply taking it is not an option. I encourage you to take a page out of the liberal playbook and raise hell, as much as you can and as often as you can. March on Sacramento holding signs, mob downtown LA with a pro-2A rally, contact your State Representative at least once a week, and join organizations that are on your side like the NRA, Gun Owners of America, Calguns, CRPA and Gun Owners of California.

What About Everyone Else?

For those of us who live outside of California, I think it’s high time we got more involved to help out our friends and family “behind enemy lines” – myself included. My reason for saying this is simple: if it can happen in California, it can happen anywhere. Think not? Look at Colorado. Colorado used to be one of the best states for gun rights, and now look at what’s going on (though Colorado is putting up an admirable fight).

The point is, I think it’s wrong for us to sit back and just let the anti-gunners have California, because at its core gun control is a symptom of statism, and the disease called statism that has so poisoned California is highly contagious. It breeds lazy, mindless parasites who will go along with whatever liberties the government wants to steal, no questions asked. We cannot let the disease spread further than it already has.

While it may not seem like much, you can help out the folks in California by contacting the members of the California State Legislature and letting them know that infringing upon the Second Amendment ensures that you will never spend a single Federal Reserve note in their state. You can join the organizations listed above, and most importantly, you can help spread the message of liberty.

Because the only thing that can defeat statism is liberty.

Couldn’t have said it better. I wss born and raised in socal, got my first gun in socal (southern cali), and have all my family there. I did, however, move to Eastern WA state to leave behind the tyrannical, broke, overpopulated, state. I still contact senators, stay up to date with calguns, and hope to help fight this nonsense as well in other states. We may be divided by jurisdiction, but our conviction shsll be the same….to fight the over reach of anti gun laws for the benifit of us all. Thanks for doing what you do!

We do need to help those in other states. I live in Nevada one of the most gun-friendly states in the Union and unbelievably the Nevada State Senate and Assembly just passed SB 221 which would make it illegal to sell or transfer any firearm between two law abiding citizens without a background check even if both involved parties already have CCWs and have subjected to FBI background checks (we can buy from an FFL gun store w/o a background check if we have CCW). I was born and raised in California where I was on the Trap Shooting Team at Anderson Union High School (Anderson, CA) where I brought a Remington 870 shotgun to school several times per week and was on the Pistol Shooting Team when I attended University of California at Davis where I had a special permit to carry a handgun on all California campuses. I moved to Nevada after I got out of the U.S. Army specifically because I had seen the encroachment of ridiculous gun laws and other restrictive laws on businesses and individuals.

Now gun-control is creeping its way into Nevada now that there are Gun-Grabbing Democrat majorities in both houses of the legislature. Unbelievable! I used to call Nevada “the last free state” because almost everything was legal including prostitution and gambling on a large scale. Now gun control is being creep-ed in? Unbelievable!

Hopefully Republican Governor Sandoval vetoes SB 221 as he has indicated he would. Hope is not a method, Democrats have openly again identified themselves as the gun-grabbers they really are. We need to vote them out in droves! Many say and make a point that there isn’t much difference between Democrats and Republicans. Once again Democrats have demonstrated through their actions that there is at least one huge difference…Democrats will go after your guns! Its not just in crazy California, Illinois, New York, etc anymore.

Nailed it as always, Brandon. And you’re right. Colorado is tragic but we’re fighting tooth and nail. Senator John Morse will be the first sacrifice. 🙂

      Good Ebbs! Sick ’em!

      Thanks brother.

Yeah Ebbs! Morse is going down, as will Chickenlooper, hopefully.

It’s up to us to keep our boots against their throats and our spurs on their cheeks (euphemism of course). Just because the past few elections went wonky doesn’t mean it’s over.

Shit will have to hit the fan and one side or the other will have to scream “Uncle” before this gun grabbing bullshit is ever settled

I hate that state! Yes I can say that I was raised there. They have destroyed on of the most beautiful places ever. I left at 19. Since then my parents, brother, sister and two nephews have left the state. That state has gone to the crazies. I am not talking about the Dems. I am talking communists and socialists. It is unreal. Even their “conservative” areas are actually moderate. I will continue the fight in the south.

Thank you very much for taking note of this issue. I was born in CA almost 50 years ago. Family is here. Friends are here. My business is here. However, so much of what is happening in this state makes me wonder who the hell these people in the legislature are. They’re not my neighbors and they’re certainly not my friends.

The Democrats in Sacramento are hypocrites (and thieves, but that’s another issue). They pull the usual “if it saves one life” BS and crap all over the 2nd Amendment, but Love their own, armed security details; their Praetorian Guard if you will. The only thing they’ll understand is if you can hurt them financially. They have election-proof districts, so unless the interests of their backers are put at risk, nothing will change.

That’s why my wife and I grabed the kids and left California, we knew it was coming, not only couldnt purchase a house there but the thought of being a slave of the liberal agenda was mind boggling! We live now in Nevada, times are tough still (thank Obama) but the mind set here is different about guns and stuff people enjoy taking the their kids to the gun shows and to the shooting ranges, I could say its kind of way of life here. I really feel bad for gun shop owners and shooting schools, I do my shooting training in corona, the reason why is because is really good training, California has the potential to be a gun state, just have to get rid of the shady and corrupted politicians!!

Agreed. Better off consolidating defenses on a front you can win rather than spinning your wheels on a lost cause. Sorry californians. Well, not really. Vote with your feet. That is how this country was founded. The fundimental base is states rights. The sooner most realize and embrace that the sooner we can fix the issues.
