The Huffington Post (yeah, not my favorite site either) is reporting that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) will introduce gun control legislation today that will include “universal” background checks. And that’s not all…
Senator Reid had the following to say in a statement, emphasis added.
Later tonight, I will start the process of bringing a bill to reduce gun violence to the Senate floor. This bill will include the provisions on background checks, school safety and gun trafficking reported by the Judiciary Committee. I hope negotiations will continue over the upcoming break to reach a bipartisan compromise on background checks, and I am hopeful that they will succeed. If a compromise is reached, I am open to including it in the base bill. But I want to be clear: in order to be effective, any bill that passes the Senate must include background checks.
But wait, there’s more.
Earlier today we told you that Senator Feinstein’s assault weapons and magazine capacity legislation would be allowed on the floor as amendments to the gun control legislation, and that’s exactly what Senator Reid is going to do. He said:
The bill I advance tonight will serve as the basis for opening debate. Once debate begins, I will ensure that a ban on assault weapons, limits to high-capacity magazines, and mental health provisions receive votes, along with other amendments. In his State of the Union address, President Obama called for all of these provisions to receive votes, and I will ensure that they do.
But wait, there’s more, and this is the worst part.
Senator Reid will use the background check bill sponsored by Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), which includes a provision that requires records to be kept of all gun sales in the nation. That, my friends, is not only “universal” background checks, but “universal” registration.
You can read more here.
Don’t wait on this one. Contact your Senators and Representative today. Let them know, respectfully, to vote NO on universal background checks and registration. Many of these politicians are claiming that most Americans support this legislation.  Make your voice heard before it’s too late.
And why does this surprise anyone the man is a Moron
Remember a long time ago when everyone high fived and celebrated our victory when the AWB was dropped in the Senate? Wait. That was this week?
I was one of those people who actually wanted the AWB to come to a vote…
I am so sick of people saying to contact your Senator and Reps, IT DOESNT WORK!!!! you want to know who my senators are?! Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer. That is besides the point, writing to your senator only puts your name on a list of people to go after first. Writing to your senator does nothing!!! No matter how many people write them it will not, i repeat will not change their minds on their agenda for disarmament.
Feinstein and Boxer? Yeah they won’t change their minds, but not everyone lives in Cali.
But not every Repub is a 2nd Amendment supporter
Who said they were?
Man I feel you, I think they hit reply all withr the same generic message. Thy dont give 2 fucks what we want. So….. Lets just vote their asses out!!!!
The link to “Contact your Senators and Representative today” is dead.
Thanks for the heads up, fixed.
Shit, I need to order more 168 BTHP match ammo
Yeah we might need to talk…
My Senators back in New ( Jersey) Germany are Liberals, why waste the effort? Now I am in Kentucky, which is still a state in the USA, but we need to get reid of these Liberal Commie Bastards
He didn’t kill Feinsteins bill at all! He just made it easier for them to be added as riders, amendments to other bills. Nothing in effect has changed.
This is only requiring that all sales go through an FFL dealer. This will only hurt people that sell guns from person to person or at gun shows. FFL dealers already now require a background check and keep the transfer records for at least 5 years. What Reid is proposing is not “universal” registration rather just simply good record keeping in case a weapon is used in a crime. I work for a major firearm retailer and we get inquiries for a specific firearm from law enforcement about 2-3 x’s per month. This bill they are trying to pass here just makes it so criminals can’t buy a gun at a gun show, auction or private sale.
It also makes it so that a NON criminal can’t buy a gun from another NON criminal. Like selling a gun to your brother, or friend. It adds complexity and expense where it’s not needed. That, however, is a minor issue compared to registration. Registration has ALWAYS led to confiscation, and is actually forbidden under the Firearm Owners Protection Act.
You must work for Dick’s Sporting Goods.
As a manufacturer who has recently had to do the trace process, if you work for a retailer, you can shut the hell up. Retailers are required to do the 4473’s and keep your records. No where does it say you need to keep them forever like the manufacturer. This “universal background check” is pseudo registration. If you believe anything to the contrary, go donate to Feinstien or jump off a cliff…. Same result for me….
Jason. Have you been drinking the Kool aid???? I’m a retired Cop and This whole bastardization of New Town Makes me sick. Most Rank and File Cops , Deputies absolutely understand where this is going to lead. To a list for Confiscation. That is not what the Constitutions Says. I swore to defend and Protect the Constitution of the United States First. Obama need to be stopped before he drives this country into the ground. The 2nd Amendment is the Keystone of the Bill of Rights. Those were endowed to us by our Creator. The Constitution written by geniuses now we are governed by tyrannical IDIOTS
And what is to stop someone from saying “meet me down the street in the old Kroger parking lot in 2 hours”? Absolutely nothing at all. In fact, it encourages it. As it is now, gun shows can be considered “safe” places as well, to safely sell your gun in a controlled environment. “Universal Background Checks” solve nothing at all, and have the potential for bigger issues. You can’t just do something “because it might help” when it has the greater potential to not work at all, or cause other problems. Remember when you were a kid trying to dam up a creek with the rocks in the creek? The water just kept getting deeper, kept rising and no matter what you did, it always found a way around. This is like that, but the creek is a river the size of the Mississippi, and you only have that same small hand full of rocks you used to try to dam up that creek. It won’t work.
Jason you can’t possibly be that stupid, keeping records only affects law abiding citizens and can only lead to confiscation of legally owned guns. It will do NOTHING to prevent criminals from using stolen guns in the commission of other crimes, it will do NOTHING to prevent mass murderers and will NOT hinder criminals at all. Instead of BS legislation that does nothing to prevent crime why don’t they instead pass some real stiff mandatory sentences for those who use firearms during crimes! Remember folks the ONLY thing keeping people from harming YOU is the fear of the law and it’s consequence’s, we need to bring back shawshank style prison and make it less comfortable for the murderers on their too short stay.
Jason criminals don’t follow the law! This only criminalizes law abiding people to further their goal to disarm the American people. Don’t be nigh eve. They have a long term goal.
I live in Montana, and both of our Senators are Democrats. I have been calling and emailing them for months, but I redoubled my efforts after hearing that the AWB had been dropped because I knew it was a ploy. I let them both know(and I did actually vote for both of them), that if they vote for ANY legislation that in any way makes it harder for law abiding and legal folks to purchase, own or possess a gun, that they will lose their jobs.
Montana is a very important state for this right now, as I said, both of our Senators are democrats, and we are a very gun friendly state. The only reason they have been voted in is because we have trusted that they wouldn’t support gun control bills. Now they are feeling extreme pressure from their party, and from their constituents. Here is hoping they make the right choice!
Feel free to share your voice with the Montana Democratic Senators.

Thanks Jeremy.
OK, you guys; I am one of those expletives that reactionaries keep calling us. BUT I believe in the constitution and there are no limits on what a citizen can own. Although tanks are pretty expensive. Here is the real problem. The “govmint” is using the Connecticut horror to get what it wants; control. The REAL cause of the mass shootings is the answer to the question, ” What is wrong with our society that it is driving people so insane that they believe multiple murder will solve their problems?” If we do not address the root cause of the problem, we can never solve it by attacking the instrument of destruction.
I live in California and feel like I am pissing in the wind but I write to Di Fi regularly reminder her how wrong she is. It is frustrating as hell living here but I am a native and not one to quit. I was have been at three different ranges many times over the last three months and they are packed with people sporting AR’s and much more. We are here and we are strong so please don’t think we are all fruits and nuts
Stay vigilant in your efforts and contact these slugs daily. Do not become oppressed like sheep to the slaughter.
I have written to my congressman and senators and asked them to add an amendment to any bill that comes to the floor expanding background checks and mental health screening for gun buyers also include violent video games and movie ticket sales if they really want to do it “for the children†they shouldn’t mind dumping on their friends in hollyweird
These people are not worried about psycho’s stalking our elementry schools, they are worried about citizens stalking the halls of power looking for those who have destroyed their country
If they keep crapping on the constitution, stepping all over peoples rights and try to take away everything we have worked so hard for and try to take our guns, it will end up the way it started…..civial war
