Beretta USA May Leave Maryland

Pictured above is a Beretta Nano and Remora holster.

Gun control, not surprisingly in this political climate, is being debated in Maryland.  Beretta USA, which is located in Maryland, is paying close attention to the outcome.

Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley recently introduced the Firearm Safety Act of 2013, also known as Senate Bill 281. SB 281 is your standard Democrat gun control bill. It would ban “assault rifles”, ban magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, and ban any new guns with two or more “military-like” features. SB 281 was passed out of Senate Judiciary Committee last week by a 7 to 4 vote.

Beretta USA, in response to SB 281, is hinting that they might be forced to leave Maryland if it’s signed into law. The Washington Post reports:

“Why expand in a place where the people who built the gun couldn’t buy it?” said Jeffrey Reh, general counsel for Beretta.

Concern that the company will leave, and take its 300 jobs with it, is palpable among state lawmakers who worry it could be collateral damage from Gov. Martin O’Malley’s proposed gun-control bill.

“I’m concerned. I think they’re going to move,” said Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller Jr. (D-Calvert). “They sell guns across the world and in every state in the union — to places a lot more friendly to the company than this state.”

If SB 281 is signed into law, I hope Beretta does move, just like Magpul leaving Colorado. It’s time to start cutting off these corrupt governments financially by voting with our feet.

It amazes me how the current regime states that they want to create jobs yet their current position on firearms will destroy a lot of stable jobs. Yes, the firearm related companies can move but those jobs will remain closed until the said company is completely moved. Many of our politicians don’t think, they just push their agenda without concern for anyone else.

Here in Chicago the push is on to ban “assault weapons” as well due to the large amount of violence. Majority of the street deaths, however, are done by pistols. Banning assault weapons is just a feel good gesture that isn’t going to stop any of the violence and is just going to p*ss off those of us who follow the rules.

Wouldn’t matter..Chicago will continue to kill it’s inhabitants, with rocks if needed. Chicago has a reputation to uphold. You are correct, yet Chicago already has a handgun ban and look at how well that works. What is needed, is a ghetto criminal ban, by enforcing current laws and sentencing. Stop paroles, plea bargains, and probation and of course, the death penalty and make it swift and violent

Again I find it funny that these bastards want the gun companies tax dollars and the jobs they provide yet want to crap on the gun owners.
Can’t have it both ways it seems.
I for one would Vol to help pack boxes and move equipment for them or send money to help the cost of the move , same for Colt, Magpul and any one else wanting to leave their Antigun states for a progun state.

I hope they move….the peoples republic of Maryland deserves to loose the tax dollars and jobs, and keep their high crime. So glad I live in Virginia where guns are still allowed and respected, and we have low crime (compared to Maryland and DC). Where are all the law suites in these socialist states by the good law abiding residents/defenders of the 2nd amendment? Pray and prep people….
