CMMG Announces the MK47 AR/AK

CMMG announced a new rifle today called the MK47 Mutant, an AR/AK hybrid system. And by hybrid, I mean that it fires the 7.62×39 round and takes AK mags, but uses the AR direct impingement gas system with a .308 sized bolt.

From Facebook:

CMMG is proud to announce the arrival of the Mk47. This is something truly new, truly unique. The Mk47 is the first mid sized AR. The 7LB CMMG Mk47 utilizes a .308 sized bolt, accepts AK mags and Drums. The goal with the Mk47 was to address the issues plaguing 7.62×39 AR rifles, namely, weak bolts and unreliable magazines. The mid size receiver keeps the weight down and is the perfect platform for other mid sized cartridges.

They should do some research before claiming they are the first to make such a rifle. Another company local to me has been selling making and selling them for over a year now.

Copy that. Great idea. But hardly the first out of the box. But CMMG has a rep for good quality arms at an affordable price. This one, I think, bears looking into – as do the others.
The cheap, plentiful supply of 7.62×39 alone makes it worthwhile.

I wonder why they decided to go with DI instead of piston?

Creative Arm’s rifle is utilizing the AK-47 gas system, keeping it just as reliable as the AK itself, but adding the same feel as the AR-15 platform using its trigger system and controls. They are offering range days for people to go out and try the rifle itself and I believe they are scaling their manufacturing right now!
