Facebook/Instagram In Talks to Ban Guns

Forbes recently reported that Facebook and Instagram (remember that Instagram is owned by Facebook) are in talks with two of the most heinous anti-liberty groups in America – Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense and Mayors Against Illegal Guns – to “put pressure on Facebook to prohibit the private selling or trading of guns on its platforms, a practice that’s as widespread as it is unregulated.”

Two of the country’s most influential gun control groups are in talks with Facebook’s legal team in an effort to see gun sales banned on the world’s largest social network and its sister site Instagram.

Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense In America has partnered with Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns to put pressure on Facebook to prohibit the private selling or trading of guns on its platforms — a practice that’s as widespread as it is unregulated.

“Facebook and Instagram are enabling people to sell weapons, often with no questions asked and no background checks required,” said Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ spokesperson Erika Soto Lamb.

Rumor has it, this is a video from a Moms/MAIG planning meeting where they discussed their gun control agenda.

At any rate, technically they are correct. If you want to post a gun for sale on your Facebook or Instagram page, there’s nothing stopping you, and more importantly, you haven’t broken any laws.

Unfortunately, those days are numbered, as I expect Facebook to eventually give in to Moms/MAIG and ban “gun sales.” I also see this as only the first step. In my opinion, Facebook will eventually cave and go the way of PayPal, banning anything to do with the sale of guns/weapons. Don’t think so? Take a peek at Facebook’s ad guidelines for weapons (read Facebook’s revenue model) and then get back to me.

It’s only a matter of time, and those of us who are pro-liberty need to find a different social media platform.

Monderno is a blog that HAS social media outlets. If Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/etc all shut down tomorrow, Monderno isn’t going anywhere. That’s why I encourage people to sign up for our newsletter.

Social media is a place for social interaction. The blog its self is a place for interactive dialogue. Therefore its social media. Just wanted to point out the irony in his comment. Im glad its not going anywhere. Its one of the few places left with good content

*you’re, *you’re and a period (.) at the end of the sentence. Who’s the moron now? ::boxes up computer and sends it back::

Chill guys, who cares where you put a period and or comma. The point is that Facebook feeds information to the feds about your personal activities. If you are a moron to allow your personal information to be broadcast is your decision. If you believe that the privacy settings are relevant then I have some swamp land you might be interested in.

Your too stupid to own one <—— Check stupid out! He can't figure out where the period is on his keyboard, somehow managed to put a comma in there, and doesn't know the difference between "You're" and "Your". What a clown!

Screw those commies. I’m glad you didn’t suggest we all move to Google+…those pukes are even worse.

I’d like to see them ban the NRA from Facebook.

  5. alex February 25, 2014 at 3:36 pm #

More like a ban on free speech but I guess it is their choice about what they allow on their program. I’ve never sold anything on Facebook would even think about it but then again I’m not a business either.

  6. TK February 25, 2014 at 3:55 pm #

We definitely need to move off of Facebook…

  7. Reginald February 25, 2014 at 4:01 pm #

That is good news for Armslist which imho is a better place to buy and sell guns.

People sell guns on Facebook? I thought that’s what Gunbroker is for?

    • Brandon February 25, 2014 at 5:26 pm #

      Private sales, yes.

I’ve wanted to ditch Facebook for a while now. This is a nice addition to the reasons to ditch column.

  11. HillBilly Bob February 25, 2014 at 10:55 pm #

I never did the Facebook thing so let Facebook and whomever ban guns all they want as far as I am concerned.

  12. Steve February 26, 2014 at 6:28 am #

Using HillBilly Bob’s logic: I’ve never bought a gun in Colorado, so I don’t care if they ban the sale of guns there. They can ban guns all they want as far as I am concerned.

    To misquote Martin Niemöller…

First they came for the gun owners, and I did not speak out– Because I was not a gun owner.

Then they came for the religious nuts, and I did not speak out– Because I was not a religious nut.

Then they came for the gays, and I did not speak out– Because I was not a gay.

Then they came for me–and there was no one left to speak for me.

Exactly!!! ( I think I spelled that correctly and used the proper punctuation!)
