Ferguson Gun Sales Spike 700%

This probably won’t surprise anyone who reads Monderno, but there’s been a bit of a spike in gun sales in Ferguson, Missouri, ahead of a grand jury’s decision on whether or not to indict Officer Darren Wilson. And by spike in gun sales, I mean to the tune of 700%.

Gun sales have increased at a staggering rate in Ferguson, Missouri, ahead of a grand jury’s decision on whether or not to indict Officer Darren Wilson, the cop who shot dead unarmed teenager Michael Brown.

Steve King, the owner of Metro Shooting Supplies in nearby Bridgeton, says he has sold 250 firearms this week.

That is a 700% increase over the 30 to 40 guns the store typically sells in a week.

You can read more here, but that’s…a lot. Outside of the obvious, here’s why this matters – the people who are rushing out buying guns are proving a couple points often made by those of us who are pro-liberty.

First, Police aren’t able to protect every single person 24/7/365. Most sane people understand this, and the people of Ferguson are doing something about it by taking at least some measure of responsibility for their own safety. Good for them.

Second, and perhaps most important in the long-run, who are these folks rushing out and buying guns? The answer is that most of them are first-time gun owners:

First-time gun owners account for about 60 percent of his recent customers, King said. Among them is Dave Benne, who on Saturday purchased a Smith & Wesson handgun as shoppers swarmed the 8,600-square-foot showroom.

Benne said he’s considered buying a gun for some time, but the events in Ferguson, a town that borders his community of Florissant and shares a school district with its neighbor, were the decisive factor.

“Everyone else has one,” he said. “I figured I’d better too.”

I think it’s safe to say a significant portion of the above 60% either weren’t involved on either side of the Second Amendment fight, or they were against us. I wonder how many were dyed-in-the-wool, card carrying Democrats that voted for anti-gun politicians?

What do you want to bet this experience has changed their mind a bit?

Now the question is if these new gun owners will use them? I think this entire ordeal should have been nipped in the bud as soon as the rioting and looting started
Peaceful protestors are fine, no one hurt and no property damage done but once it goes sideways then it needs dealt with and hard in my opinion

Right you are. If these people don’t see a threat then I think the guns will stay in the boxes they came in, however, now you have a lot of new gun owners that now understand that police are not able to protect them.

When the Grand Jury comes back their going to riot and burn down their own grocery stores and mini-marts, then fail to understand why they aren’t rebuilt and they now have to drive 10 miles to get beer and smokes; I saw this after the LA riots.

How much does anyone want to bet that anyone shooting a looter or rioter even in self defense will be charged by the LEOs with murder ?

I wouldn’t shot anyone unless they were coming through my door or if I was directly attacked while I was out
Screw the cops, prostitutor or grand jury that would bring charges but I imagine a sitting jury on the trial is fed up with the bullshit from rioters, agitators and sympathizers
The alternatives are your funeral or hospital stay and I would take my chances with a fed up jury over death or a debilitating injury/life depending on how bad the injury is
In my area no one would be charged for self defense but if there is proof otherwise then it would be gloves off by the prosecutor
Ferguson needs more Korean shop keepers or past Kent State National Guardsmen, ok maybe the Korean shop keepers

The Powers That Pretend To Be, and those who wish they were, have been in the position of influence in regards to controlling the narrative pertaining to the 2nd Ammendment. With the relevant data coming out of Ferguson, such as what this article outlines, we are presented an opportunity to direct the narrative in a direction we prefer. It is evident that reality does not match up with the anti’s theories. All we need now is for some of these ‘Ferguson sympathizers’ to protest as they’ve been calling it (looting, plundering, all that ) in the front yards and back yards of the disarmists and the statists for their self induced illusions to be cleared and their delirium to be cured.
