Houston’s Armed Citizen Project

Some cities are conducting gun buy-backs in a foolish attempt to curb gun violence, but not so in Houston, TX. Instead, the Armed Citizen Project is taking an altogether different approach here, and is giving away free shotguns and training in high crime neighborhoods.

If you have not yet heard of the Armed Citizen Project, it’s an organization in the process of registering as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, that focuses on providing skills and tools to folks in high crime neighborhoods. Here’s the description from the Armed Citizen Project website.

The Armed Citizen Project is dedicated to facilitating the arming of law abiding citizens, and analyzing the relationship between increased firearm availability and  rates.  We are choosing mid-high crime neighborhoods in cities across America, and offering defensive weapons to citizens that can pass a background check, and that will take our safety, legal, and tactical training.  The data that we collect will be used in the completion of a policy study that will measure the deterrent effects of firearms on crime.

The northwest Houston community of Oak Forest recently became the first neighborhood in the country trained and equipped by the Armed Citizen Project. Kyle Coplen, the project’s 29-year-old founder said his group expects to train at least 50 Oak Forest residents and put up signs saying the neighborhood is armed.

“When we have a crime wave, we don’t just say let’s just increase police and that’s all we do. We do multiple things. I see this as one aspect of what we can do,” said Coplen, who graduated from the University of Houston with a master’s degree in public administration.

You can read more here. The fact that they are training people to use and giving away shotguns instead of super capacity assault death ray killing machines semiautomatic rifles should at the very least make Joe Biden and the other gun grabbers happy, right?

All joking aside, I hope this movement spreads to other cities as well, and from the Armed Citizen Project website it looks like Tuscon, AZ is also an ACP city. If you’d like to donate to the Armed Citizen Project, you can do so on their website, and you can connect with them on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

FINALLY, someone is doing something to ACTUALLY DETUR CRIME!! Just think, arming AND training LAW ABIDING CITIZENS in high crime areas! I really can’t wait to see the results of this study. I bet crime will drop. I’d put money on it if I had any. I also bet the MEDIA will only cover any shootings by the armed/ trained public, without mentioning the “Trained” part. This is a HELLOFA good idea, EVERYONE should support it! ( except the criminals of course)

Can you believe in California a buy back program for TOY guns?

Too absurd to believe! Well, maybe from California!
