Recently, Glock realized that while it’s very nearly 2012, their website looks like it’s more like 1998. I’m happy to see that they are now sporting a new look, with updated content, and it looks great!
Glock finally updating their website makes me wonder – are we going to see new pistols from Glock at Shot Show? Maybe getting the website ready to showcase new products? This is probably wishful thinking, but I would love to see a single stack 9mm for concealed carry from Glock. The Glock 26 is a great gun, but it’s quite a bit thicker than the many great single stack options available, like the Kahr CM9 we reviewed.
Single stack pistols make great concealed carry guns because they are so comfortable to carry and are so easy to conceal. True, you give up a few rounds over double stack options, but I think that most people are well suited with a single stack option if they carry an extra magazine or two.
So is Glock going to release a new single stack at Shot Show 2012? Perhaps something else? Let me know what you think in the comments, but I can’t wait to find out!
The unfortunate reality is that until Glock begins listening to customer requests for new items, the Glock monopoly on the law enforcement and civilian market will likely dwindle. I am a die hard Glock fan having owned or been issued eight different Glock pistols in four calibers. I have sent letter upon letter to Glock and also spoke to a factory representative asking for a midsize big-bore and a single-stack subcompact as illustrated above. All letters went unanswered and the Glock rep, when presented with the idea responded, “Why would we do that?” Obviously I’m not the only one seeking these options so my answer to that rather curt response is, “Because your customers are asking for these guns!” Kahr, Taurus and Ruger are but a few to offer single-stack subcompacts and Springfield Armory will have an ultra-thin .45 ACP XDS available in March of this year. Please, Glock, step up to the plate and support your customers!
Well said, I agree! Gaston’s got a lot on his mind right now though, and the man is 82 years old. I just don’t think he’s that interested in making changes to his product lineup, which is too bad.
I understand and give Gaston Glock a lot of credit for a design that has esentially dominated the law enforcement market since the mide to late 1980’s, however, Mr. Glock also has a talented staff that I’m quite certain could pick up some of the slack for him. The last car that Enzo Ferrari had his own hand in was the F40 which, although an icon in the automotive world, has been overshadowed by far superior cars since his passing. In the gun world, one need look no further than Taurus which has gone from a purveyor of copycat guns to a truly innovative company with a line of pistols, revolvers and now carbines that is second to none and they’ve done so while maintaining prices that are at levels far below what the quality of the weapons suggests the costs should be. Again, I am a die hard Glock fan, but when I have a specific need that Glock refuses to fill and does so with arrogance, my loyalty can go only so far.
