Nucla, CO Makes Gun Ownership Mandatory

The town of Nucla, Colorado joins Nelson, Georgia in requiring that every head of household residing inside town limits to maintain a firearm.

The symbolic town ordinance passed with a 5-1 vote, and won’t be enforced. Pro tem mayor and town trustee Richard Craig said, “Every head of the household residing in town limits is required to maintain a firearm together with ammunition thereafter. Criminals are put on notice, period. We are armed.”

Not surprisingly, anti-gun liberals are mystified.

Personally, I agree with Bill Long, the lone trustee who voted against the ordinance who said, “We’re not being consistent, saying we don’t want government in our lives but here we are saying everybody’s got to own a gun.” Having said that, it is nice to see a group of people taking a stand for gun rights, even if it is just symbolic.

I think that’s just it…it’s symbolic. I’d agree with the lone dissenter if they were actually going to enforce it.

I agree with you we can no more make people have guns than allow government to take them away. This is more about freedom than anything.

I’ve got mixed feeling on this one. Stats prove that when these types of laws have passed before, crime has dropped; 47% in the GA case. ATF stats prove that these types of laws, or the lack of restrictions do cause a drop in crime.

The Nucla law doesn’t force anyone to buy a gun, you’re able to just say they don’t want to own one. I see it more as a statement from the town.

Same here…still a big FU to the gun grabbers, so I’m on board.
