In his State of the Union address this evening, President Obama promised that 2014 would be a “year of action,” and his speech made it clear that those actions would be unilateral in nature.
However, he wisely said very little about gun control, except the following (emphasis added):
Citizenship means standing up for the lives that gun violence steals from us each day. I have seen the courage of parents, students, pastors, and police officers all over this country who say “we are not afraid,” and I intend to keep trying, with or without Congress, to help stop more tragedies from visiting innocent Americans in our movie theaters, shopping malls, or schools like Sandy Hook.
2014 is of course an election year, and as such, I think we can expect more of the same – no new gun control legislation will pass in Congress, but the President may continue to issue Executive actions and potentially, Executive orders. What those actions and orders look like, and how far the President is willing to stretch his power, remains to be seen.
Agreed – he will AT MOST play more games with Executive actions that don’t actually do anything, but with it being an election year, I doubt even that will happen. 2015…different story.
when do we raise up and retake our country? Yeager said it best.
Thanks for keeping up with the action. I’d rather read it from you than watch the “news”!
Thanks Brenda!
I second that, rather here about from someone I know isn’t pushing a hidden agenda. A concerned American like myself. Your doing a great job, read your blog everyday and have been for months. Thanks for your service
After reading your post it appears we’re going to continue to wistle past the grave yard to convince ourselves that the police state isn’t really as bad as we all know it is. Sure Pharaoh 0bama isn’t really going to do anything. And if he does it won’t really be that bad for Americans freedoms as “some” say it will be. Can anyone on this blog say “Obamacare.” I guess we’ll have to pass the execuitive orders to find out what’s in it.
I wouldn’t call that whistling past the graveyard. I think barring another high profile shooting, nothing will happen on the gun control front in 2014 because it’s an election year. If the Democrats are smart (big IF I know) they will shut their mouths until after the elections. 2015 could be an entirely different story.
IF you think that the executive orders Pharaoh Obama is going to sign are meaningless. Just try and violate one and see if the police state doesn’t come down on you like a land slide.
