Oklahoma Open Carry Bill Filed

Oklahoma State Sen. Nathan Dahm filed Senate Bill 1473, a bill that would allow citizens over the age of 18 to open carry loaded or unloaded guns without a license for hunting and target shooting. The bill is making headlines, not because it’s particularly unique, or that it significantly promotes gun rights, but because of its title: the Piers Morgan Constitutional Right to Keep and Bear Arms Without Infringement Act.

Bill Intro

An Act relating to firearms; creating the Piers Morgan Constitutional Right to Keep and Bear Arms Without Infringement Act; providing short title; amending 21 O.S. 2011, Section 289.6, as amended by Section 11, Chapter 259, O.S.L. 2012 (21 O.S. Supp. 2013, Section 1289.6), which relates to conditions under which firearms may be carried; adding condition; providing for noncodification; and providing an effective date.

SB1473 is set to be introduced on February 3 – you can read the entire bill here. Needless to say, Piers Morgan is none too happy to have his name tied to this bill…not that anyone particularly cares what he thinks.

On the other side of the ledger. California has had 3 gun manufacturers pull their firearms out in the last three months. Glock, Smith & Wesson and Ruger have all announced that they are pulling out their pistols from the california market because of California’s new gun laws. Before you say who cares. Since California is the largest gun market in the country and most gun manufacturers are publicly traded. The share holders in these gun makers are now pressuring them to comply with the new laws so that it won’t hurt there stock values. This was California’s plan all along, Either lose access to the California gun market OR put California’s gun laws in practice everywhere in the country. In case you’re unaware of California’s new gun law ie “micro-stamping” and “magazine interlock” requirenments. Look them up. It’s coming to a state you live in, SOON.
