Police Confiscate Vet’s Rifle

There’s a story out of Oregon that is raising quite a few eyebrows. Police have confiscated a veteran’s AR-15, and he’s facing charges, after he attempted to stop a wanted felon from breaking into his home.

Why might you ask? Because he fired a warning shot.

Corey Thompson, an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran, was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Menacing and Reckless Endangering. “There was nothing that the suspect was doing that was aggressive enough to justify the shooting. In fact, the suspect was walking away,” said Medford Police Lt. Mike Budreau.

Stop Firing Warning Shots

Look I get why he fired a warning shot, I don’t want to shoot someone either, but this isn’t the first time that something like this has happened. It happened in Texas not too long ago as well. Like it or not, there are consequences to discharging a weapon unlawfully depending on where you live. If you feel you must warn the bad guy that he’s about to get a permanent dirt nap, then use your voice, but please stop firing warning shots.

Baffling! Is housebreaking or burglary not a felony on the left coast? I hope the judge is more sensible when he has to go to court. And what happened to the “wanted felon”? I am sure that they just let him go becuase there was no probable cause…

I seriously hope the DA doesn’t file on this guy.

As shitty as this is, a gun owner has a duty to know the laws in his/her state. It can be hard to establish a different ROE stateside when the other is beaten into your head. Thoughts with a fellow vet.

“Bullets don’t just hit the ground and absorb, they skip…especially when it’s such high-velocity.”

WHAT? Isn’t it proven fact that the higher the velocity, the faster a bullet will fragment?

William, please, for your own sake, get some training on use of force. Whether it’s a felony or not has nothing to do with popping off a warning shot. Warning shots are generally not legally defensible. Discharging a firearm can only be justified by an imminent threat to life, and if you have time for warning shots, there is no imminent threat. This guy was in the wrong, period.

What about the 300 rounds the cops discharged in Boston against two guys sharing one pistol? Nobody seemed to worry where those 300 rounds were going?

I love it. He follows Vice President Biden’s advice and ends up with charges against him. He should sue the VP for giving legal advice without a license to practice.

Didn’t the VP tell everyone to do exactly this, but with a shotgun? They should bring him up on charges…
