Rifle Dynamics on the AK Import Ban

You might have heard the news last week that the Obama administration issued sanctions against Russian companies, including Kalashnikov Concern, the arms manufacturing company that makes AK-47s. Effectively, these sanctions have banned the import of Russian made AK’s.

Jim Fuller from Rifle Dynamics talked to James Yeager about the AK import ban, and what Rifle Dynamics is doing about it.

The bottom line is, we need to be independent, we need to be Americans, we need to stand up and deal with it. And that’s what we’re doing.

I couldn’t agree more. In fact, it’s that spirit that led to us tackling the trunnion problem a year ago. We couldn’t find any imported trunnions during the ban-ic, so we started making our own based on an original Russian part. I can’t wait to see how the rifles comes out. I’ll buy one!

I’m curious as to how the Century Arms 39 will now take off. I don’t think any of the parts are brought in for this.. any thoughts?

I might, just for the basic parts. It can be refined.

Kel Tek will develop a X39 product that will accept AK mags, sell for the same price as an import, be more ergonomic and more accurate
Ruger will raise the price of their X39 Mini and reduce production
Hi Point will introduce a X39 version of their carbine with proprietary 10 round mags, they will be chrome plated and cost more than the Kel Tec

I assume that this is only effecting the Russians, so there are going to be a lot of AK’s out there still.

Correct, though supply and demand might drive up prices in the near term, we’ll see.

Correct. I should have added the prices going crazy, etc.
