Sen. Boxer to Introduce New Confiscation Legislation

Not to be outdone by the buffoonery of her Senate counterpart Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.), Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) is planning to introduce legislation that would allow family members to petition the court to take guns away from “unstable” and “violent” people.

The Hill reports:

Boxer said her Pause for Safety Act was in response to the May 23 mass shooting and stabbing spree in Isla Vista, Calif., by Elliot Rodger, a 22-year-old former Santa Barbara City College student. Seven people died in the attack, including Rodger, who killed himself.

Before the shooting, Elliot Rodger’s mother had called police and asked them to check on her son. She called after seeing a video Rodger had posted online where he talked about women hating him.

Authorities determined that Rodger did not meet the criteria for an involuntary hold despite having a history of mental illness. He later killed his roommates and shot up a college campus.

“We failed our children. Call it what you want but we are failing our children because we have a basic task to keep them safe,” Boxer said on the Senate floor Monday. “We have a function here not to allow someone who is unstable or violent to get a weapon.”

Under current federal statute, people with mental illnesses are only prevented from buying guns if they have been involuntarily institutionalized or a judge has deemed them as mentally ill.

Boxer said her bill would allow family members who are concerned about the mental stability of a person to petition the court for a gun-violence prevention warrant. The warrant could prevent someone from buying a gun and would allow the police to confiscate guns already owned by the person if the court deems the person as a threat.

This is legislation is a real-world example of the slippery slope in action: the Democrats want registration, and they want confiscation. I doubt this has any chance of passing, but it won’t be long before we’re fighting legislation that will allow confiscation for a myriad of reasons, and as soon as the Democrats have the votes, it’ll pass.

Can we remove a senator if we believe they are unstable? Removing power from those who are unfit to wield it is the point of this bill… right?

While I am as big a 2nd amend. guy as you can find this (on the surface) may actually be worth discussing.
schizophrenia is a disease that strikes predominately men in their early 20s. Since my sister in law is schizophrenic I have some first hand experience with it. In my opinion some of these cases (re sandy hook) were cases of SP. This disease comes out of nowhere and it is damn near impossible to legally protect a SP person or others from their actions. I peak from experience.
HOWEVER, I do not trust the tactics of the left, they will use this as a stepping stone to disarm more people. An antigun relative could simply file a complaint, too easily abused.
Still it is worthy of discussion. All rights come with responsibilities.

how about we intoduce a bill that would allow us to “remove” a senator or congressperson if they seek to violate the US Constitution.

I remember she was adamant about someone addressing her as “Senator”, as she was so proud of that title. Yet,she (and a host of others) is turning the title into an epithet.
