SIG SAUER P938 Preview

Update 3/18/2012

As Andrew helpfully pointed out, this post was previously categorized incorrectly. It has since been fixed, and we changed the title for good measure. In the future, if you see an incorrectly categorized post, a simple post comment or email will do just fine. No need to get all upset.

One of the new guns introduced at Shot Show 2012 that I am really excited about is the SIG SAUER P938. The P938 is the 9mm version of the very successful (and very nice) SIG P9238, which was chambered in 380 ACP.

Overview

Like the SIG P238, the SIG P938 is a micro 1911 style single action pistol geared for concealed carry. The P938 is only slightly bigger and heavier than the P238, but with the same great features like the excellent SIGLITE Night Sights.

The SIG P938 comes in five configurations, though only four are listed at the time of writing on SIG’s website.

  • Blackwood: A natural stainless steel slide and black hard coat anodized alloy frame are paired
    with Hogue Blackwood grips.
  • Extreme: Following in the footsteps of other Extreme models, this P938 has a Nitron-coated stainless slide and black anodized frame. Hogue G-10 Piranha grips in black and grey provide maximum grip and a distinctive look.
  • Rosewood: Features a Nitron®-coated stainless steel slide over a dark hard anodized alloy frame. Hogue® Rosewood Grips round out this package.
  • Equinox: A polished Nitron two-tone slide is paired with a black hard coat anodized frame. Tru-Glo® front and SIGLITE rear sights and Hogue black Diamondwood grips complete this package.

Thoughts

I’m pretty excited to get some trigger time with the P938. I expect it to be a winner in the market, with street prices in the $650 range once the newness wears off. For people who love (and are comfortable with) the 1911 platform that want something small for concealed carry, the SIG P938 should be on your short list of pistols to take a look at.
