Business End Customs Smith & Wesson M&P

I’ve been looking for an excuse to get a gun from Lou at Business End Customs (BEC) for a while now, ever since Jon at PHLster told me about the awesome job Lou did on his Smith & Wesson M&P.  A month or so back I was messing around on Facebook, and I found my reason.

On the Business End Customs Facebook page, I saw a custom Smith & Wesson M&P listed for sale, and about $100 cheaper than it should have been considering all that Lou had done to it. Now, I didn’t need another M&P, and I wasn’t even in the market for another M&P, but I have kind of a thing for them in case you didn’t notice. Long story short, I bought it (sorry Rob).

Enhanced Carry Package

Business End Customs worked over the M&P with what they call their Enhanced Carry Package. It includes a slide melt treatment, 10-8 Performance rear sight, Novak Red Fiber Optic front sight, Tactical Grey Cerakoted slide, and carry trigger job.

Slide Melt Treatment

The slide melt treatment is where all of the rough edges on the slide are taken down to make the pistol more comfortable for inside the waistband (IWB) carry. Honestly, I don’t think this one is needed, as I don’t have any issues with the rough edges on a stock M&P slide, but there’s no doubt that it is smoother.

Sights

The rear sight is a 10-8 Performance sight which I love almost unconditionally. I have a more thorough review of these sights coming soon, but the short version is that they are fantastic, but with one rather major complaint. More on this next week.

Update 9/18/2012: Read our review of 10-8 Performance Sights here.

The front sight is a Novak Red Fiber Optic sight that is highly visible, quick to pick up especially with the blacked out rear 10-8 sight, and precise. Great choice by Business End Customs.

Cerakote

The slide is Cerakoted in Tactical Grey, which is a flat grey that looks fantastic. Lou did a great job on the Cerakote, looking over the slide, it’s simply flawless.

Trigger

One of the most popular ways to fix the stock M&P trigger shortcomings is to go Apex Tactical, and for good reason – Apex kits work and work well. Business End Customs instead has their own approach to fixing the M&P trigger. Lou didn’t give me a whole lot of specifics on his changes (trade secret ya know?), but the end result is undeniable. The trigger is fantastic. Here’s a video that Lou put on YouTube of the trigger pull and reset.

So the obvious question is, how does the Business End Customs trigger job compare to Apex Tactical? Well first off, the BEC trigger job is cheaper, especially if you live in the MA area where they are located (saving shipping costs). Second, I think the reset is slightly better with the BEC trigger job. If I had to pick one, I’d probably go with the Business End Customs trigger job.

What I do miss about my other custom M&P is the Apex Tactical AEK trigger, it’s just so much better than the stock trigger. I think adding the AEK trigger to the BEC custom M&P would be perfection.

Wrapping Up

Business End Customs did an awesome job on this M&P. The sights are close to perfect, the Cerakote is flawless and looks great, and the trigger is fantastic. Dealing with Lou was also a pleasure. If you need some work done on your guns or need a gun Cerakoted in the MA area, check out Business End Customs.

Tough call! I love the snakeskin and the AEK trigger on my other M&P. I’m not selling either of them. 🙂

Almost 100% – I’m going to replace the stock plastic trigger with an Apex Tactical AEK trigger. 🙂
