Gun Control Will Never Work

I recently wrote a blog post for ArysDaniela.com called Gun Control Will Never Work. In it, I  made an argument against gun control that isn’t often brought up, and that argument is that technology will soon advance to the point where controlling the manufacture and sale of guns will be all but impossible.

Gun control advocates would have you believe that by simply taking guns away from law-abiding people, by making certain types of guns illegal (you know, the ones with scary features like pistol grips), that we can reduce and prevent violent crime. I’m here to tell you that this will never work.

There are many reasons I could give to support this claim. I could show you FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics that show how the last Assault Weapons Ban was ineffective, and how the violent crime and murder rates have both dropped by over 50% in the last 20 years despite gun ownership going up.

I could make the very logical and plainly obvious assertion that criminals, by definition, do not obey laws. I could point out that if criminals are willing to break X number of laws in order to commit a crime, it’s illogical and intellectually disingenuous to think that adding an additional law will finally change their mind.

I could show examples of cities here in the United States, like Chicago, which have some of the toughest gun control laws in the country, and yet some of the highest violent crime and murder rates. I could use these facts to show that there is no correlation between gun control and crime reduction.

I could make many other arguments as well, but instead, I will make an argument that is not often discussed. That argument is this: technology will soon advance to the point where controlling the manufacture and sale of guns will be all but impossible.

You missed the Khyber Pass argument as well…a region where they’ve been crafting copies of firearms, mostly by hand, for a long time now. Throw in a few people with some basic mills and lathes (you should see what a local machinist who’s also a shooter has turned out in terms of accessories, barrels, etc.), and all you’ve done is make things more expensive but still available to those who don’t care about the law.

I didn’t miss it CJ, I just can’t make posts that are 70 pages long. 🙂

I doubt there are any politicians or news organizations that would ever admit that “Gun control” laws didn’t work. Their arguments will always revisit the false notion that when one law fails, it’s because it wasn’t strong enough…An idea that has certainly put this country on a path to a total gun ban somewhere in our future. That being said, I agree with you 100%! The idea that you can eliminate guns and or the “Scary” pieces that make up what ever some half thought out politicians’ idea of what makes a gun dangerous is ridiculous! We are, after all, human…The most resourceful, ingenious and creative creatures on this planet. The only way you can get rid of guns is if you can get rid of every person who has the ability, the determination and the will to make a gun! Let’s just hope it never comes to that! Just a thought…

In addition to the Khyber pass the Phillipines have a similar and thriving back alley manufacturing community. In December an Australian man was busted for making machine pistols for local hoods. Basic plans for these are on the Internet already and require only basic machining skills/tools.

Thank you, Brandon. Boy! Do I feel stoopid? Yeah, I do (slaps forehead.)

I’ve actually seen a TV program that had this featured. Way cool stuff.
