Here We Go Again…

Well, we knew it was only a matter of time until we had to fight the U.N. Global Arms treaty nonsense again. Looks like it’s going to be sooner rather than later.

On Monday (Christmas Eve), the U.N. General Assembly voted 133-0 (17 absent) to hold a conference in March to renew discussion on a U.N. treaty to regulate the multi-billion dollar global arms trade. You can read more about it here.

There has been a lot of discussion (and disagreement) about what exactly a U.N. arms treaty would do to our Second Amendment if ratified by the Senate. As we discussed last time, I’m by no means an expert on such matters, but my personal opinion is that a ratified U.N. treaty would absolutely mean more gun control here in the United States. I think it would be first in the form of a global firearms registration and regulations (read restrictions) on imported guns and ammo.

The NRA had this to say about the treaty back in November:

Among the draft’s most onerous requirements are those intending to burden and keep records on “end users,” or gun owners. The draft states that “Each State Party shall maintain national records… Such records may contain… end users” and that “Records shall be kept for a minimum of ten years.” If this obligation were to be enacted and followed, it could result in registration for any American that purchases an imported firearm.

The treaty discussions will be held March 18-28 in New York. In the meantime, we need to keep an eye on this, and contact our Senators. Let them know that if they vote to ratify this treaty, you’re going to do everything you can to vote them out of office next election.

We still have elections and the rule of law folks, let’s use them the best we can.
