During halftime of last night’s Sunday Night Football game between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, sportscaster Bob Costas decided to take a slight detour from football, and give viewers his $.02 on gun control.
Bob’s detour was in response to the recent murder-suicide by Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher, where Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, and then drove to the Chiefs facility and committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager.
Bob’s solution to the problem? The government should limit access to handguns. Then scumbags like Belcher wouldn’t be able to kill people anymore.
Bob’s useless drivel proves that he is woefully, and probably irrevocably, ignorant when it comes to gun control. First of all, gun control doesn’t work. One only has to look at the city of Chicago to see this truism in real-time, where so far in 2012 there have been over 400 murders, in a city with the strictest gun laws in America.
Second, it doesn’t matter if gun control works or not. Let’s pretend for a second that magic unicorns are real, we all live in Neverland and that Captain Hook sings us Hawaiian lullabies every evening before bed on his ukulele. In this make believe world, criminals obey the law, and gun control actually reduces violent crime. Guess what? It doesn’t matter.
The Second Amendment guarantees our right to keep and bear arms, and shall not be infringed. Period. Gun control fanatics like Bob Costas don’t understand this. They are perfectly fine with sacrificing our liberty in the hopes that it will provide them a little more security.
The reality is that because of their willingness to sacrifice my liberty, your liberty, for their security, means that they do not deserve either.

It is a real shame that so many morons think that gun control is a good thing. This idea has been cast so much that some really believe it is true. Just because it is said over and over by the ignorant does not mean it is true. Gun control put into place by many dictators in the past proves that the only ones who want gun control are the ones that want total control. We need to place those that push for gun control in the heart of Chicago, and then see if they will still stand by their views.

Dear Bob Costas,
I totally and wholeheartedly disagree with your viewpoints on gun control and handguns. Owning handguns is not the issue, nor does it initiate the intent to want to kill someone. The Belcher situation is tragic, but because he had a handgun is not the reason he killed, although it did enabled him to kill her and himself, the handgun is not the blame. His want and intent to kill is the heart of the matter. To the person who intends to kill, the weapon of choice is not the focus, the intent is. Had Belcher not had a handgun, he would have used other means to do so (knife, blunt object, etc.). His want to kill and follow through is disturbing and heartbreaking not the handgun. Yes, a handgun is a tool to kill, someone’s wanting to kill is more important and scarier. With this being said Mr. Costas, limiting my ability to protect myself, family and others is scariest of all and not the solution.
I agree with Mr. Rainey. Our right to own guns is our only protection against someone who has the intent to kill.

Killers are killers. Hate & the desire to take someone’s life (unjustifiably) is the problem. Sadly, as a hunter, I’ve bagged more deer with a car than a gun… what does that say? PETA isn’t too mad at me, since I had no intent with my econobox. I carry CCW, but I am willing to shoot someone, or some animal, if they are a real threat to my life, even if they don’t have a gun, the threat is problem!
Call NBC about Bob’s rant? Good idea, although, you can go a different way, and call the advertisers, stating you’ll watch their adds when Bob Costas isn’t on during the same game.
