Gun Control Filibuster

There are still a few Patriots left in Congress.

A few days ago we gave you an update on the assault weapon ban, and detailed Harry Reid’s plan to allow gun control legislation be openly debated on the Senate floor that included background checks and registration.

In response, Senators Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) are sending Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid a letter that he may not like, in which they say, “we will oppose the motion to proceed to any legislation that will serve as a vehicle for any additional gun restrictions.”

According to Politico, the three Senators never come out and say the word filibuster in the letter, but leave no doubt that they would filibuster on an initial procedural question, the motion to proceed.

I think we can all agree that we need more men of true conviction in Washinfton DC. But can that come at a price in the current political climate? Everyone knows what happened the last time a serious drive for gun control was pushed through, proponents were promptly voted out. Could we see the reverse this time? In the visceral political landscape and the abhorrent blame game coming from the White House will we see the left vilify the right to the point that any inaction will cost the right important seats in 2014 and thereby giving Obama exactly what he wants? Unchecked power?

I feel the same way about Ted Cruz as Dominic Simpson does with Mike Lee. I couldn’t be more proud of having our State Representatives fighting from the front. We shouldn’t be afraid to stand with our conviction. We need more men (and women) in politics with this type of courage.

The guys are/should be the new leaders we need in DC. If we had more leaders like them we’d be back to #1.
