S2723/A4182 has passed out of New Jersey Budget Committee yesterday. If passed, the bill would replace the current FID cards with a driver license, require proof of firearms training, create a seven day waiting period for handgun purchases, end the private sale of firearms, and effectively create a registry of ammunition purchases and long gun sales.
Bill Synopsis
Revises statutes concerning firearms purchaser identification cards and handgun purchase permits; makes handgun purchase permit valid for four years.
Pretty short synopsis considering the bill is about 20 thousands words long. The fact that the synopsis says nothing about what the bill actually does should tell you all that you need to know. The bill now moves to the Assembly for a full floor vote, which is likely to occur on Thursday, June 20 2013.
