One thing that was again very clear in this election is that America is divided along polar political lines. While this in and of itself isn’t necessarily a bad thing, the way this polarization is playing out in a lot of people’s lives is most definitely a bad thing.
Friends, neighbors and even family members have once again turned on each other for politicians. Politicians who have never done a single thing for you that did not benefit them in some way (think money and votes). Friendships sold for whatever petty nonsense the Republicans and Democrats were selling this time around, or ruined over disagreement.
Did I vote? You bet I did. Do I have strong opinions on the direction this country is going, who’s running it and what should be done? Absolutely. But I have a lot of friends and family who do not agree with me, and that’s ok. I have not disowned them because they’re wrong (haha).
So my point in all of this is to say that if you’ve turned your back on someone for a politician, fix it. It is my belief, and I sincerely hope that I am wrong, that we face some very rough waters ahead as a country. The storm that is brewing will most certainly cross political lines and affect us all. We can best weather this storm together.
It only takes one shot to start a revolution.
You know, it’s funny…when I tell my conservative friends that they shouldn’t vote for Romney, we usually have good conversations. When I tell my liberal friends they shouldn’t vote for Obama, they get pissed, insult me, and unfriend me on Facebook.
But you’re right – neither Romney nor Obama gives a crap about the people, they care about votes.
Well said!
You have hit the nail right on the head, I have gone through this many times in the last 4+ years, it really pisses me off when people refuse to hear an opinion other than their own. This time around I have made no comments what-so-ever, and as a result, no arguments! Im not giving in, Im just biding my time (hahahaha). Thanks for a great article!
Unfortunately I don’t think that will ever happen. It’s always been this way. Nations were formed from tribes were formed from groups who didn’t like the way the others wanted to do things. All wars have been over who should or shouldn’t be in charge. Even wars of conquest effectively state, “You’re not doing it the way we want it to be done so here we come.”
If everyone would just get really involved in their own lives and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing, we’d all be a lot happier.
Good statement.
